Has anyone seen or heard anything about this? I just saw a review of the Overtrail version. It is triple locked. I remember someone saying there was a new front diff in the Lexus parts catalog that was locked. So, I told my wife we are traiding in our J250 for the new LX...

Once we win the lottery.

I just want the front diff.
I'm sure there will soon be an aftermarket elocker available for the LC 250 front diff, if there is not already.

Thank you, do you think the front diff would fit the 250?

Moderators please delete if you need to.
Don't think it would fit the 250, but it'd probably be able to shoehorn into a Tundra or Sequoia.

Why would it not fit? The land cruiser 300 has 66in front track 66.1in rear, the J250 is 65.5in front and 65.7in rear so 0.5in is close. The Tundra and Sequoia are wider by a lot 68.4in front and rear.

I was thinking just the pumpkin guts but I suppose you could swap entire from clip.

I was thinking the whole thing the pumpkin different would not fit...

Is the front dif just like the 250, in that it doesn't have a pumpkin? The 250 is like the Bronco it splits down the middle, at least I think that's what I saw.

I was about to write other stuff to prove my point but then I saw who posted and had to check if I was right or not. 😀

Old habit, I refer to all areas that house big axle gears as pumpkins.

Send me the gofundme link and I'll sponsor your research for a pizza and some cold snacks!

I think it's a perfect overlander. It has all the right specs. It's 1,000lbs heavier than a Humvee, has less cargo capacity than most side by sides and less interior volume than a Rav4. Costs as much as 2 Ram Powerwagons. I'd say it really checks all the boxes for me as an offroad legend!

I don't think so. The Tundra and Sequoia use a differential carrier magnetic clutch device (the same thing the e-locker uses) as the new differential disconnect mechanism (that's the function that used to be done by a slide collar in the intermediate shaft tube). Moving that to the differential carrier basically means that there is no locker for the Tundra and Sequoia and likely never will be. The challenge of creating a differential assembly that has both the ADD function and a selectable locking clutch for the spider gears is IMO too big of a challenge for the relatively small market demand. If you want a double locked Sequoia or Tundra - you probably need to buy an earlier generation or sort out a swap for the front drivetrain.

Ouch, if the Tacoma/4Runner use the same system, that seems to take all of the non-AWD TNGA-F 4x4s off of the vehicle as a future builder's platform. Or, maybe folks will figure out the AWD T-case swap, but I can't imagine that being easy in such as new vehicle.

I have not had either one open personally - so this is just based on Toyota's drawings as I understand them. But it appears the Taco front diff still uses an engagement clutch (splined slide collar) on the intermediate shaft.

The Tundra/Sequoia is magnetic clutch integrated into the carrier.

I'd guess you could probably still swap in the LX700 (or presumably any of the LC300 front lockers) into the Tundra or Sequoia, but you'd have to accept that the front will always be spinning even in 2hi (about half of it is anyway already) or add an awd transfer case if it is adaptable. Wild guess - but I'd bet the awd case is an easy bolt on swap. I think the electronics may be a little more challenging.

I doubt you can swap them into either. My guess is they are a wider axel than the LX. They would most likely fit the J250 though. With the addition of the Tacoma TRD Pro half shafts that would be a very formidable off road beast.
