When I bought my truck,. the salesman asked me if I wanted this activated. Mistakenly, I am pretty sure I said "yes". Now I wish I had said "no". Anyone know how to deactivate this piece of spyware? Anyone else have this experience?

I think you're referring to the Safety Connect feature (the same one that the SOS button uses). Each LC comes with a 3 year free subscription (from date of manufacture).

You can manage subscriptions from the Toyota app.

Also, it will no longer be supported by Toyota starting November 2022.

It might be an aftermarket tracking device dealers sometimes install as a recovery tool in case of theft. Since you referred to it as a “strange tracking device”, do you have a photo of it?

LoJack?

It must be the Toyota version mentioned previously. I have no photo, just remember the salesman asking me if I wanted it or not.

Thanks for sharing this @brasskey. Do you know when it was published? Since I have a 2021 I checked the list of models in the article and for the Land Cruiser it specifically says 2011-2017 model years. So do the 2018 models use a different technology?

It might be the KAHU tracker that some dealers install. We had to ask to have it removed from our 2021 HE.
Dealer tried to charge us $1,800 for the unit, "they install in all vehicles they sell". I declined and asked them to remove it. They said they would remove it but did not. I found it substituted for my OBD2 port. It was plugged into my OBD2 port and had its own, black, OBD2 port that went into the stock location. The rest was zip tied above an AC conduit above the OBD2 port. I unplugged it and restored my white OBD2 plug. It had a battery backup which I unplugged and threw the whole thing in my desk drawer. Then I tried to use the Toyota app to turn off the SOS tracking Spyware. The app would not function saying that my phone was rooted, which it is not. Called the deactivation number and learned that the PO had discontinued the free 3 year service. However, even with the account disconnected the unit tracks your every move and sends data to Toyota. I had to specifically request it be completely disabled where the SOS button will not function and zero tracking data is obtained. Said it takes 48 hours to enact. Going to look at the hardware to see about castrating it there too.
I got suspicious when the the website displayed the increased mileage after driving home from dealer 180 miles away. I'll install the dronemobile alarm and remote start but don't want the dealer nor Toyota in possession of my location and telemetry.
