Some new renderings have come through. Some small changes but doesn't look like anything significant. I'll update as more info comes through.

What does everyone think?

Well.... no bonnet scoop, either the 1hz version or the intercooler is missing or moved to infront of the radiator. Don't like the mirrors, too small when towing or have stuff on the back ect. The rear bumpers are hideous, as is the front bumper. Good news is evey aus one will have a tray and a bullbar so i won't have to look at it. The grill looks abit soft imo. The biggest changes will come from the drivetrain though, (if there is any) as toyota isn't going to change the appearance a great deal. Will have to do something with the motor for emissions i think, and possibly a 6th gear. An auto is most likely on the cards, which i say is soft but if it nets em sales, well it'll happen.

Thanks for sharing

Likely an overseas ( Not Aus ) model pictured. Looks like rear track issue fixed by how far the hubs stick out. Very good chance of an auto option too.

Nothing that a brushbar and proper tires can't fix. :)
I wonder if that small cutout (forward of the rear tire on the single cab) is Toyota's new version of the bed step.

And we still don't get one in the US.

Boo

And probably never will.... with the laws about importing diesels after 25 years....
Might see the gas version of a LC at some point... although the FJs and pickups do occupy that niche...

Yep, agreed. The only way to pull off a diesel here is to cheat like VW, GM, Fiat. And risk getting caught before the proper palms are greased (VW) in my opinion

Hello,

Quite likely both pictures are from 1GR/1HZ-powered models.

There is not much change in the front grill.

It appears Toyota wants the 70 Series' bumper to look like other models' ones. I think it is ugly.

Both examples have fender flares. Not the base grade, I presume.

Hello All,

New member, first time poster. I am not very familiar with Toyota Land Cruisers but I've admired them for many years. Today I saw a car carrier heading north on I-75 in Northern Kentucky in the United States, carrying what I thought looked like unusual vehicles. Some investigation leads me to think they are Land Cruiser 70 pickup trucks. I have not been able to find any information about them and if they can be purchased at Toyota dealers or elsewhere. Here are a couple of pics I grabbed through the windshield. I joined this forum hoping you all could help confirm the identity of these vehicles and provide more information about them.

They are definitely Toyota Landcruiser 70 series. They are not available for purchase on the US. What else would you like to know?

Thanks. Out of curiosity:
  • Are they new production?
  • If yes where are they made?
  • Why would they be transported inside the US if they are not available for purchase in the US?

*Are they new production? ....... Most likely
*If yes where are they made? ........ Some really cool Japanese factory
*Why would they be transported inside the US if they are not available for purchase in the US? ........
...... Your friendly government or perhaps military has a use for them. (Your friendly government gets to enjoy a number of items they deem unsuitable for you)

Yes.

Japan

Most likely used by US government for foreign aid / military duties. They get amoured/modified before they leave. ( Not too sure on this because I'm from Oz and these are plentiful and every man and his dog owns one )

As an Automotive Designer and 70 series owner, I can tell you for a fact that these are some amateur photoshopped images. Perspective is totally off , lighting is off, and added design language doesn't aline with anything Toyota is up to these days.

I still wont mind a 4 door 79 Series in the US :)
