I have a set if LP9s coming on Monday I'll be wiring in. I would like to run the amber DRLs in the lights to the factory DRLs. The lights themselves I only want to run highbeam mode and I want to run them off the highbeam switch on the steering wheel.

Would anyone happen to have a wiring guide for our headlights, or know off hand what wires to tap? I can check all of this with a multimeter but I know several people are running these lights already so someone may know the wires to tap.

Thanks in advance, and wheel safe.

Below are the instructions for wiring from the ARB instructions for the Prado 150. They worked correctly for the fog lamp. I did not wire my LP9s into the high beams; I am using a SwitchPro for those, so I can't guarantee the same wiring for the GX. The "High Grade" instructions would be the ones to look at.

This claims to be '14-'19... I didn't fully validate

I'm going to be honest, that's hieroglyphics to me.

Looks like I need to wire the relay to kick on with the larger green wire on the headlight. I knew the headlights had a lot going on, but I didn't realize there was this much. I really don't want to mess anything up with them. The last time I installed some LP9s they were on my FJ and that vehicle is very basic compared to this one.

Just to clarify, the instructions above are for tapping into DRLs. So the amber lights will be switched through the large green wire. Based on the schematic, it appears that high beams will be switched on the "SB" wire, maybe solid blue?

I appreciate it. I was looking at the schematic and had no idea what was going on.

To clarify, you are not running the low beam at all?
From what I can tell you should tap into the 8 pin connector (Terminal 4 gray wire) for the DRL. Looking from the back (wire) side of the plug 4 is top left
For the high beams, tap into the 6 pin connector terminal 6 (Pass side is Green/Black, drivers side is black). Looking from the wire side of the plug 6 is bottom left.
Double check with a test light or multi-meter.

Correct. I don't intend to use the low beam function on the LP9s. I had a set on my last vehicle and never used that. I also used the provided switch on the last vehicle which I won't be doing this time. I want to run the lights off the high beam control and have the LP9s ambers come on with my factory running lights. I want them to have an almost factory function. The way I see it, if I would want to run the lights, I will want the high beams on anyway, and I hated having to search for the light switch. Being able to just use the factory lever is much easier. The FJ was a much simpler vehicle to work on though. The headlights on the GX are more complex than the entire FJ lol.

So this is what I got from Baja Designs. They answered in an hour, impressive for a company that size during this Covid thing.

"Do you have one of our harnesses? Does the GX460 have a Hi beam, low and a ground circuit? If so you disconnect the switch from the harness and cap the two red separately. Find the white wire with no power, this will be your load wire. Use said wire to tap into the Hi beam circuit and you are ready to rock! This is a custom install so I can only tell you hat each wire does on our harness."

I would imagine there is a highbeam circuit on this headlight since it has HID low beams and an incandescent high beam. With that said, can anyone make sense of what I need to tap into? Thanks for all the help folks, I really appreciate it.

I'll be giving this a shot today to see if I can get them to turn on with just the high beam switch. I'm really hopeful because I won't be running anything else and to buy a $500 Switch Pro just for 2 sets of lights is a huge waste to me. Thanks for all the help folks. Really appreciate it 🙏

Do you only plan on just 2 sets of lights?
Or maybe a compressor or proximity lights later??
Although if you go with more accessories, then you can go with the Switch Pro.

Following this one too... Keep us posted on how it works for you. I am wanting to install 2 of the LP6s and am hoping to wire it as you described (so when I power on the switch, the lights run off the bright light lever). I don't really see a scenario when I would want to power the LPs with the factory low beams.
I would also want the option of controlling the backlighting function so I could choose whether they come on with my parking lights/low beams or not. The only wild card is the hi/lo beam function of the LPs themselves... not sure if that can still be switched as needed, but I could see a case for the lesser power once in a while.
They look like amazing lights, so thanks for posting this so we can all learn a little.

So, you were 100% correct. 6 pin black wire is the high beam power wire i needed.

I spoke with Matt at Baja Designs and he walked me through the easy process of eliminating the switch.

Take your switch wire pack (two red and two white) off the switch (i just cut it off with a little to splice onto) cap both red wires, they won't be used. Using a test light, find the white wire that has 12v constant. Cap that one as well. Run your own wire from the remaining white wire in the harness to the black wire on the headlight (high-beam wire) and boom, all done.

I dont have a hard mounted compressor so that's not an issue. The ditch lights are on their own switch, but the lower bumper lights come on using the factory fog light switch on the column. The LP9s now come on with the factory high beams. Nice and easy to use while driving.
