Wanted 2013 LX how long until it has been for sale too long?

A dealer in the Anaheim area of California has an LX that I am interested it. Seems to be a reasonable price for the miles and is the right color combo.
My wife is concerned because it has been on the market for about 50 days.
Does time on market impact your decision to look at car? I am not local so I would need to travel to check it out.

(I am new here, this seemed like the best place for this question. Please let me know if I was wrong)

Personally l would be far more interested in the service history, number of owners and overall condition. Buying a used car of this type would require a third party inspection. I have noticed the willingness to negotiate rises with time.

Good luck with your purchase.

Condition from a far looks great. One owner, when it was in Texas there was good service history on Carfax, when they moved to California service history disappears. Maybe a shop that doesn’t report. I will need to see if the dealership has any info on that.

Thanks for your response.

Some here would be very concerned about the dealers VHR, I would not. The reason why is I have owned a LC since it had 9000 miles. It now has 215,000. I have done all my own service except 2 water pump/SERP belts and a new steering rack/ front end rebuild done by my mechanic at his shop (Javier’s for any Texas folks). He does not report.

That is why I think a pre purchase inspection is so important. In the last 30 days I have had three different vehicles on the rack (2 private owners and one dealer) and all three failed. Two had severe mechanical and undisclosed collision damage that was uncovered during inspection.

Is there a good resource on where to find reputable shops to do pre-purchase inspections? Or how I should approach that for a vehicle that is at a dealership 200 miles away from me?

Have you looked at the Lexus site to check what Service records show by the VIN ? When I was looking at my LX I ended up buying in April the CarFax showed 0 service records until 50K miles when the PO started taking it to Independent places for Oil changes. When I checked the Lexus site though every service was documented at Lexus San Diego up to 50K, they must just not report to CarFax.

50 days is nothing. LX570s aren't the easiest cars to sell. Land Cruisers are more popular & tend to sell faster & for more money. I'm a car wholesaler & the LXs I see hitting the market usually end up staying on the market for 100+ days.

I've had cars on my lot for 8-9 months; and those are cars with one owner, no accident history, & perfect maintenance history. I've had cars with 4 owners, 2 accidents, & I sell those within 3-4 days.

Call me when you get a good single owner no accident car. I’ve been looking.

Thanks All for the information. Buying a car from California may be more trouble than it is worth. Ideally I would just fly out, get a pre-purchase inspection and if it is good drive it home. I am learning that with California it isn't that easy. Basically, I would need to fly out get the inspection fly home and have them ship me the truck. Unless I want to pay double the sales taxes.
I know I could have it inspected without me being there, but paying 40K for a car you haven't seen seems too much for me.

This truck in Anaheim was on my radar as well after talking to a salesman there. I've been looking for the past 3-4 months and finally found a cherry 2011 LX in AZ (black). I might be able to put some eyes on it Saturday morning if you want. I'm about 30mins away from the dealership.

Thanks for the offer. They stopped communicating when I asked for info about maintenance after it was moved to California. It did go off line for a few days (maybe sold and returned) but it is back now. I think I am going to focus my search outside CA.

I'm also looking at that one too. last month I made an offer but they didn't reply. OK I asked for about 3.5k less than asking price. The are 10 service records since it's been in California. I'm on the fence on this one. At least 4 records are due to tires, air pressure and rough steering issues. but did have an alighment at ~65K. I reviewed the list and there's one shop in Orange, Ca which is about 12 miles away.

Submitted an offer for $37K OTD and offer was refused.

Same one, he did say it is on consignment. So you still have the owners emotional attachments as part of the deal.

You got some good information. I need to talk to him this week. I did see a couple of references to rough ride and STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY.. I wonder if something is going on with the vehicle

I talked to the dealer and based on our "UnitedFan" persistance the owner lowered the price down to $38,000. The dealer was supposed to take pictures of the under carriage but I havent received them yet. Based on the Lexus owner site the LX had 10 services since it was registered in California. I still think the owner can do better.. however, the dealer mentioned that the owner has 38K as their best offer.

I also asked the dealer to tell the owner to replace the tire to 33" BFG KO2's LOL.
