So. . .
I have the opportunity to purchase a friends 2013 Land Cruiser 200. It is silver with black interior. 42,000 miles, new tires, new brakes, never been off-road, maintained at a dealer (not CBT:(), no wrecks, very clean, all for less than $60,000.

I currently drive a 2011 Suburban as my daily driver. I need the third row seats for our family, so the 200 fits nicely in that category. I will lose some cargo space behind the third row, which will be an issue on family road trips, or for the dog.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

You know what I think ;)

I vote for the land cruiser but hey I am partial to land cruisers. A roof top enclose cargo carrier could solve some storage issues on road trips but you still have the dog situation to deal with as not much room behind the 3rd row in he land cruiser

How has the Suburban done for reliabilty?

I already have a roof top carrier that we used this summer. (3,600 miles, 60 hours, 4 daughters, 1 wife, no dog). You can see why I need the space.

The Suburban has been great. This is my third one. It only has 42,000 miles on it as well. Going to need tires soon.

well der...

I'm starting to drool over a 200, but realistically, the price is still way up there for me. Not sure how much you'd be out by switching from the Suburban to the LC. If the Sub is still under warranty, slap a thousand bucks worth of tires on it and roll with it. If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, I think you'll like the 200. Our friends have an LX570, and I like it for road trips. Better MPG than the 100 (though probably worse than the Sub? ~18 MPG highway). More 2nd row room than a 100, but probably less than a Suburban.

History would tend to lead me in this case. Review Slee's 200 to help nudge you in the correct direction.

Since you already have both a 200 series and Suburban which do you prefer to drive? I'm guessing the LC, but is it enough to give up the space. Besides the 200 series was out of my price range if I wanted to retire I was looking for something with more room. Since the last non Toyota we bought was in 87 the Sequoia was the best option for us. One of my biggest complaints about the 80/100/200 series is the third row seats. Most just remove them and put them in the rare times needs. With four daughters that not really a option. My oldest daughter drives a second generation Highlander. She removed the middle section of second row so it's easy to get to the back row. I know your not looking for a Highlander but don't believe the LC is designed to be as kid friendly. Like the Highlander the Sequoia third row seats fold flat when not in use. I like the idea of having the room I need behind the second row and then just push a button to get the third row seats. While all my kids are in their thirties I have seven grandkids all who live here in the valley. If we drove anything besides Toyotas a Suburban would not be out of the question except for the fact I doubt it would fit in the garage.

While it's is a Toyota consider the fact the only warranty left on the 2013 is the power train which has eighteen thousands miles left. That's going by three year, thirty six thousand bumper to bumper and five year, sixty thousand on the power train. Last new vehicle we bought was in 04 and that was the standard unless it changed since then. Since that time I have bought three Certified Toyotas as my DD. While my Sequoia has seventy thousands miles on it I still have thirty thousand left on the power train. Because they really wanted me to buy a extended warranty I have bumper to bumper as well. While the Sequoia was as expensive as the LC I still like the idea of having descent warranty.

42,000 miles and needed brakes? Clearly a crooked mechanic or two foot driver (aka foot/brake dragger). My Z-Car needed front brakes at 60,000 - but that was due to slowing from triple digits way too often.

ps: I like mixed fruit, so using apples and oranges comes naturally to me.
