2011 LC. When I turn the car off, and the steering wheel column adjusts to the "off" position, it makes a squeaking sound.

Anyone ever experienced this? any fixes?

My LX started doing this when it retracts in after you shut the vehicle off. Was waiting for it to warm up to look at it, but just seems like it's rubbing on something as it goes in. The noise is pretty irritating

Same issue... squeaking sound comes from around the steering column when the car is shut off, it does not happen when the car is started and the wheel moves into the driving position. Planning to head into the dealership for the recall and plan on mentioning the squeak. Very annoying... hopefully it needs nothing more than a little grease. 2013 LC

Just dropped off the car to the dealership to take a look at the squeak... they suggested that the steering column needs to be replaced. I've got an extended warranty and they are in the process of getting the authorization to replace it. Definitely unexpected.

Yeah... well that replacement wasn't covered and it was 2k complete with labor. So I asked them to disable the auto tilt function when starting and turning off. Fixed the issue.

Wow.
Seems replacing the entire $2k steering column seems sort of like suggesting engine replacement instead of changing the oil...! :) I dunno. Seems pretty extreme for a squeak with no other symptoms.... :meh:

Mine has occasionally been noisy once or twice... But so has my seat forward/rear motor...maybe twice. Like a LOUD squeal, actually. Not just a little squeak.

It hasn’t returned in a while (months without a sound). Mine is more like the electric positioning motor squealing. Wonder if yours was similar...?

Yup, i'm guessing they just wanted to make money off my extended warranty (which they didn't). The noise was bearable.. something I wouldn't pay money to fix. I actually prefer to have the auto tilt function off... I'm the only person driving the car anyways.

I also have a weird squeak/and kind of a clunking feel when driving at times. I found by changing the position of the wheel slightly that the clunking goes away but squeak is still there. I’d be interested in Taco’s procedure for greasing before I tear into it myself as well.

Bump. Curious of this procedure as well.

Sorry for never responding, this one must of escaped me.

It wasn’t much of anything to note. I removed the plastic shroud, extend the steering column all the way out, and then used sparingly, white lithium grease and systematically when through all the areas that made a little noise. Spraying heavily, everywhere usually doesn’t get as good of a result as spraying enough, where it’s needed.

All in all, it’s not a fast job. You do need to take you time and make sure you didn’t waste your time not getting all the little areas where the column can slide. But it’s not hard, and outside of plastic removal, is hard to mess anything up.
