My dads 2010 v8 is stuck in 4 hi. If he hits the dash button to turn it back to 2 hi, the dash light will just flash 4 hi, and the truck remains stuck in 4 hi. he can hear the front tires squealing on the asphalt when he drives.

any help appreciated.

thanks gerry

Has he backed up, turning the wheels while trying to disengage? It doesn't sound like a binding issue. You may have more luck on tundra solutions or ttora.

Try what liljlandon said. If that doesnt work:

Try getting under the truck, and tapping the front and rear 4WD actuator covers with a rubber mallet.
Sometimes they get moisture in them, and the gears/slides stick.

The rear actuator is on the back of the transfer case.

Also check the vacuum lines going to the actuators, as well as the electrical connectors. Try pulling the connectors, and applying some dielectric grease around the connector seals ONLY. DONT get it inside, on the metal connectors.

He should NOT be driving it on the roads until it comes out of 4WD, one way or another.
