Hey guys, my dad has a 2010 with the v8. Said he is using 2qt per 5k miles... Is that normal? Anything to check for, or any way to improve it?

Thx, gerry

I want to guess 60k or 80 k. I did additional research and this is extremely common for that truck apparantly. Toyota says 1 at per 1200miles is normal?! What the fack.

Toyota "SPECS" and reality are two very different things. The only Toyota engines I've had (many with 200-250+K miles) that have used even a quart between 3500 mile changes did so due to problems.

I have experienced the same thing with my 07 tundra 50k and my wife's 07 rav4 95k. My research lead me to the oil, specifically the weight these new engines are running...0w-20 or 5w-20. I'm now experimenting using the same 5w-30 I've used in my corolla for 8 years and never lost a drop. Haven't made any conclusions yet, but it's a start.

Had the same issue with my wife's previous car, 07 Lexus LS460. Same engine as my Tundra. Never could figure it out. Went round and round with Lexus but they said it was normal. Yeah right! Sold it. My Tundra doesn't burn a drop so far with 170000 on the clock.
