Based on the above, I would bet they have changed there minds. Why would you introduce a completely new truck, and advertise it just to cancel it a year later? You mean you didn't pick Jamie's brain on this over the weekend?

They do have way to many SUV's though. You've got the Land Cruiser/Sequioa, the Highlander/4Runner/FJCruiser, and the Rav4 that before long will be as big as the Highlander.

I know the Highlander is a crossover and the 4Runner/FJCruiser are body-on-frame, but they are still in the same segment and compete with each other nonetheless.

Hey they upgraded the FJ Cruiser this year too....new engine components...new horsepower and mileage ratings...updated fender panels....few other things.

Guy I talked to was involved in design of FJ Cruiser from beginning....few months ago said they would institute changes they made last year for this years manufacturing run in 2010...but both platforms were being discontinued as they had too much model overlap with no real distinguishing differences on some other than price. They were going to get back to a luxary platform and also have a solid offroad platform that takes best of both and a more solid frame setup....

I hope they do get rid of FJ Cruiser and 4 Runner on current platforms.....why?

1- FJC has too much body flex...needs stiffer frame.....and maybe a diesel engine but other than that it is solid.

2- 4Runner is too cush now....more for mall crawlers and people that never go offroad unless they overshoot driveway and go into grass. Hell, they even have version called Urban Runner..WTF?

Get back to offroad heritage.....stiff frame, great drivetrain, bullet proof engine....with just enough niceties to keep spouses happy or us happy that have to drive hours to wheel.

Kind of a BEST OF BOTH WORLDS...truly if I had to change things on my FJ Cruiser after over a year they would be:
1- stiffer frame with less body flex
2- turbo diesel engine with 4.11 gears
3- move all electronics in cabin area and all vent tubes...up to upper dash area and up above fenderwells in engine compartment
4- make a 3" offroad suspension for 33" tires oem
5- make rear window able to be lowered....

that is it...i like the clamshell doors...i like the interior...i like the performance offroad and onroad...with mirrors adjusted properly I dont notice any visibility issues. I love it actually....

Have you watched the offroad video I linked above? It looks like they took everything the FJCruiser has for offroad and added all the gadgets from the Land Cruiser and called it good. I agree with you on all of those "real" offroad improvements instead of electronics.

Unfortunatley I think the days of solid, dependable, rough riding, foul smelling, bad-ass offroad rigs are history in the states.

Gotta go to a third-world country to get the real deal. Until we become a third-world country everything it seems will be a compromise.

My stepdad was given a 100 Series Land Cruiser in Afganistan that had the diesel engine, 5 speed manual, solid front axle, and front/rear lockers. He said it was way better than any Humvee he has ever been issued. Bullet proof glass, A/C, and the ability to drive over anything a HUMVEE can he said was priceless. Well actually it was about $150,000 according the security contract that the USGOV paid for them.

Oh, and the above 4Runner is way over priced, as is everything right now.;)

Inflation will only get worse, but that's a whole nother discussion.

I like it. Would be a good every day vehicle but at there price I could buy a fully loaded 4 door 2010 F-150 FX4 with nav. Around $34K

And I can get a bag of Japanese sweet beans from Nikaro in Okinawa for 270 yen. What's your point.:flipoff2:
