What kind of limited slip differential does the new Tacomas have? Is it like an Auburn or just a posi? Trying to decide whether it'd be worth the Off Road Pkg if we decide to take a plunge...

I may be wrong, I've only skimmed a number of Taco threads that mentioned this....
But I thought I read that the 09 & later was no longer a true LSD and was being done electronically with the VSC or Atrac system?
And that the 08 and earlier is a true mechanical type LSD.
Regardless, I did not think the TRD offroad came with the LSD as they had the e-locker option?

Correct. The TRD Pkg goes from a LSD to an actual electric locker.
Was just curious whether they used a good posi (ie: Auburn, etc).

The TRD Off-Road package comes with an open differential and a selectable E-locker. The TRD Sport package comes with a LSD rear and no locker. Historically (2005-2008) the LSD was a mechanical, clutch-type LSD, but I also recall reading that for 2009 and later, the mechanical LSD was replaced in favor of the electronic variety.
It looks as if the 2011 model has BOTH atrac AND rear diff lock in the TRD Offroad pkg. This is according to their website.
I will be following this thread, as i have an 07' w/the sport pkg and am considering a locker.
It looks like now you can get this package (TRD OFROAD) with the 4 door model AND the 6ft box with the automatic transmission... This is according to their website if I'm reading if correctly...

They now have a locker and Atrac/LSD because its no longer a clutch-pack LSD in the rear diff, its electronic LSD, its part of the Atrac system afaik..
Do you happen to know what year they started offering this combo? Was it 2009? Or is it something fresh for 2011?

MTCW. The LSD in my 07 works well. However, it does NOT work with a tire in the air, I'm 99% sure that it does not work in reverse, and I did have one time on solid and wet ice that I think it left me spinning one. I am very skeptical about electronic goodies, when we're probably going to change tire sizes and we're going to go with aftermarket gearsets/lockers anyway.
