Hey Everyone, just starting a build thread on my 79 series and kinda wanted to introduce myself and my truck. I have big plans for the truck but the build will be slow but hopefully worth it.

Just a bit of background, I am in Canada and the truck is fully legal and registered. I have been scouring the internet for years waiting for the 79 series to we legal here. So when I saw an opportunity, I jumped on it. The truck has a manufacture date of July 2008 and I paid for it on August 13, 2023. Just barely over the 15 year rule in Canada.

Thanks you. It indeed is extremely clean. I got very luck. Not a spec of rust and the paint looked absolutely brand new.

However, a month after I paid for the truck, I found out that my wife was pregnant and we were welcoming our first kid. This put a bit of a damper on the excitement with the truck, given its single cab and I had picked it ahead of a troopy.

However I got the truck on Jan 2nd, 2024. Picked it up at the container dock. The process sucked with Maersk, as there was a lot of issues with getting the container due to wrong info on the shippers part. A process I would not like to do again.

Picked the truck up from the container yard without too much trouble. Truck started up without too much issues, just a boost and surprisingly there was more than quarter of a tank of fuel.

That VDJ looks super clean, congrats on the find. From where did you source it?
That build year is also interesting for German registration.

Thanks,
Tobi

Is the Ute of Australian origin?

I bought the vehicle from Dubai. Spent most of its life in Dubai and wasn’t used much. Only 84k on the clock.

Finally got it home and in front of the old trusty 77.

With closer inspection, got to see a bunch of issues (some expected and others, not so much)

Missing one of my fuel filler caps. It’s just not there. I am assuming who ever took it off to remove fuel before shipping didn’t bother to put it back on.
