Pig run 2007
Thanks to everyone for a good event. I'd like to think everyone had a great time despite Friday's swelering heat. It was the hottest, most physically day I've ever spent wheeling.
Special thanks from me to Chris Bashore for two things: making the T shirts available with such great artwork first of all. The shirts add a dimension to the pig run and this is the second year Chris has provided us with neat shirts. Secondly thanks to Chris for leading the group with the newer guys in it. I can tell from experience that anyone who has led a group with less experienced wheelers can make the experience a good one for the newcomers- and that translates into their coming back for more. Chris volunteered to lead that group and my hat is off to him for it!!!!! Thanks twice, Chris.
Our group Saturday was only four trucks, all about equally capable, and we were able to show the guys some previously unexplored trails. We also had a lot of fun in the WEROCK competition (fun!!!) area and all in all I have to say Rausch Creek is getting better all the time. There are some growing pains at times but Rausch is a great place to wheel and we should all be appreciative of it being open.
Camping-wise there were several options that guys took advantage of. The majority of our group camped right in Rausch and getting there Thursday night (thanks Jeff) secured the better camping areas in the park. Others stayed at Camp-A-While and availed themselves of the good shower and toilet facilities, clean sparkling pool, and their kids enjoyed the game room. Charlton, who drove up from Virginia stayed at the KOA southwest of Pine Grove and said it was a decent place. Nobody stayed at Echo Valley for the pig run.
Next year I'm looking at the third Friday and Saturday of August. That will put a little more time between the Coal Mine Classic and the pig run, and several people let me know that later in August is more desirable for a variety of reasons. That's what I'm shooting for, anyway.
My daughter Jenna got to wheel with me for the first time Saturday and had a blast. She got some good video blurbs on her phone and I'm hopeful she can convert them into a format that I'll be able to share with you guys. keep sending the photos in- I am really enjoying them! The steep little hill in the play area was awesome- steepest damn trail I've ever climbed.
It for now gotta get back to work. Thanks to all who attended for making the pig run a success!!!! Gary S
