Hello.

Just purchased this 07 FJC last weekend. Unfortunately sold my 89 FJ62 Land Cruiser though (had 231,600 miles).

Anyway with the weekend right around the corner I was looking to knock out a few projects - changing the oil and painting the roof rack.

Was hoping you guys could help me out with some suggestions on painting. I was considering painting the rack frame with rhino and the rails with flat. A few years ago I painted an entire wrangler hardtop with rhino and really liked the results.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I painted my Bumpers and grill with that rhino liner, i am soon to do my roof rack as-well.. I am going to use 150 grid for the metal and scotch brite pad for the plastic to ruff it up. Basically clean it off with grease cleaner then sand it down and clean it again, then apply your paint (couple of coats). Let it cure for a day!.

I've not been able to understand why one would want to use a bedliner for such projects. You won't be able to adjust/move the racks, might not be able to even install the rails due to the increased diameter created by the Rhino.

Not sure what you are planning on carrying on the roof but I hope you understand that the stock roof rack isn't the most burly thing.

If its simply the appearance one likes, I'd suggest using Line-X instead, its much thinner and doesn't rip as easily, or get a product that one applies themself. You can get the same look using rustoleum and a "rough" foam roller, rolled along the surface while the paint is still wet.

Yet, to each their own. After I saw the Sun Fusion completely Rhino'd and another in Green, it made me wonder why someone would add over 350lbs of "paint" then put aluminum skids to save weight...

That is something I haven't thought about. I will have to reconsider.

I was also looking at simply replacing the rack with something different. Not sure yet.

Thanks for your thoughts though.

Although the rack is not a hardcore rack. It will hold things like a small boat, canoe, etc just fine.
Some people, like me only need it for that.

I am going to use some eastwoods satin black paint on mine. It is off right now so easy to do.

For the cost that a sprayed liner, you probably could sell your stock rack and combine the funds to buy a nice roof rack.

We have been very happy with our Baja Rack. I think that we put it on in 2008. It has held up very well. I think that they have added an additional version that has just the floor and no rails.

I think that Gobi makes a similar product but it runs a fair amount more in cost.
