Hello all. I have a 2006 Tundra 2WD Access Cab with the 4.0 V6 VVT-i and 6MT. Although the V6 is a great engine, I'd like to know if anyone here has done or knows of anyone whose taken out the 1GR in favor of the 2UZ. Since my chassis is a fairly simple one being without 4wd or an auto it seems as if it should be a direct swap all things considered. I believe there are some supercharger applications out for the 4.0, but they're $3K+ and for that, plus what I want (more torque) it seems better to swap in the V8. No I don't want to sell my truck and get a V8 version mainly because NONE will have the 6MT which is the main reason I bought the truck. Thanks for the help.

Thats a pretty specialized project you're looking at. You might want to check on TundraSolutions.com
They're the most active, informative forum I've been able to find on the Tundras.
IIRC, there WAS recently a decent thread on a 1st Gen V6 to V8 swap, and someone wanting to use a toyota manual tranny, but IIRC, most of the tranny talk was concerning W- & R-series 5spds.

IMHO the horsepower between the 1GR and the 2UZ is not worth the swap. The 4.0 puts out 236hp and the 4.7 puts out 245hp unless it is 05 or newer then it’s around 271hp. The TRD supercharger would give you 304hp and take maybe 2 hours to install. Time is money:steer:

It would be cheaper and easier to just sell or trade the truck in for a V8 version.
