2006 that shuts down after 2 hours of towing. Has happened multiple times. Has anyone experienced this? Loosing faith in the cruiser very quickly.

After 10 minutes of being shut down, comes right back on. Never happens when not towing .

Ideas, thoughts?

Thank you.

This happened to my 2006 (170K mi) a few weeks ago. Four hour trip to the beach, temp was around 98 that day and I had 2 kayaks on top.

Around 2 hours in, stopped briefly to get food. Left the car idling (dogs in the back) and 10 min later attempted to pull off. Engine just shut down. CEL, VSC Trac, and VSC Off lights on. Still power to the electronics. Tried to crank but engine wouldn’t turn over. Waited 10 min and it cranked back up. Then, every time I got in stop and go traffic on the interstate, or when I stopped at a stoplight, the engine would shut down. Wait a few minutes, and it would crank again.

Checked these forums but couldn’t pinpoint anything specific. Lights went off after a few days, but came back on on the way home. I babied it and it didn’t shut down on me.

Once home, mechanic pulled codes for cylinder misfire and catalytic converters.

Lights off again. Haven’t gotten it repaired yet and it hasn’t cut off on me again.

Did you read through the following thread? It popped up again in the last few days:

Engine shutting off during long trips.

I also had a cutoff issue in the last few weeks on an '06. Most that have experienced this condition under long trips (~ 2 hours) in high heat have pointed to the fuel pump possibly overheating. I am contemplating replacing mine. I have seen a few state that these pumps get tired between 100,000 and 150,000 miles. I am almost to 150,000, now.

As described above. Towing an 18 ft boston whaler, 2 hours down 40 at 75 mph in 90+ degree heat. Pull into the last stop light and shuts offs. Happened on a newly paved asphalt road as well in very hot temperatures.
