I'm seriously considering getting a well taken care of 06' LX. The issue I have is that I'm not familiar with AHC. I intend on using this as a DD, mild trail/expedition vehicle. I've owned a 99' that was slee'd and 4x4 labs with heavy lift. I'd likely want to recreate something like that but with 34-35" tires. Am I starting with the wrong vehicle? I've got my heart set on a 06-07 and everything I find in my area that's priced reasonably has AHC.

I'd encourage you to learn more about AHC. Those that don't understand it, and are unfamiliar with it, look at it as a liability at first blush. But those who have had it, know that it is an absolutely great AND RELIABLE system that has no peers.

I'd be curious to read about how you got 305's to work and at full stuff?

We recently picked up and 06 LX with AHC and love the way it rides, it won't be a hardcore build like what you described though. When you test it out make sure the doors are closed otherwise it will just blink at you.

You are starting with a Toyota platform. You've started with the right vehicle.

All here would say buy the best kept vehicle with the most extensive maintenance history you can afford. If it happens to be a LX or LC with AHC, then cool. Slap on some 285s or 295s and enjoy the truck until the AHC goes out. If and when the AHC goes out, then replace with the usual aftermarket lift of choice.

I enjoy my AHC system. On demand lift of 1-2" if and when I need it. I'll take it! Then again I'm not crawling over boulders. At least not yet;).

Spot on!! That's what I did with 285 ko2's and love the way it is with lift on demand :steer::D

My LX is a '98. No issues here. I recently swapped the AHC fluid. All good.

I've got an 06 LX, and the AHC makes for a very nice daily driver.

If you're planning on installing an aftermarket lift and all of your armor in the 1st week you have your new 100 series, I'd say avoid AHC.

If you're thinking along the lines of add a little armor and drive it a while, add a little more armor and drive it a while (and so on) there's no reason to be afraid of AHC.
