Hello,
I read a bunch of speaker install posts from you guys. I just started doing my own. I got these
Infinity Reference 6500CX 6-1/2" (165mm) two-way car audio component loudspeaker system.

My question lies around the crossover and wiring setup. 4 speaker wires come in on each side of the front door. 2 to the tweeter and 2 to the woofer. Some people say you don't need to use your own crossover because it's already been split in the amp. Some say that the tweeter has a built in crossover. So which one is it?? Do I use the crossover or just plug and play?

Also if I use the crossover should I combine the two positives and the two negatives together into a single set to go into the crossover? Or should I just use either the original woofer or tweeter and crimp off the other?

Thank You

I can't answer all of your questions right now without looking up some info, but I do know you should use the crossover that came with the Infinity speakers. Have you run a search to see what others have found in the JBL tweeters?

It seemed to be people's best guess was that the tweeter had its own impedance but it did not appear to be a stated fact. Just trying to clarify and see if there has been anything additional learned. The posts are all several years old now.
Thanks

I just did this with same speakers you bought, also did the rear, this past weekend.

Factory tweeter has inline crossover. You can see it near the tweeter itself.

At first I used the woofer line into the crossover then out to tweeter and woofer. That left the oem tweeter line to do nothing. Ran this setup for a few days and couldn't stand this odd drone coming from the woofer. No matter what I did to eq it was there. I then removed the woofer and clipped it into the oem woofer line, thus no crossover for woofer. I also ran oem tweeter wire into crossover and out to new tweeter. That sounded a little better but the done was still there. Have no idea why. Lastly, I put oem woofer back in but kept new tweeter and crossover. So much better!

I also used the infinity 2 ways in the rear. They did great and no drone.

Would love to hear if you have better luck with the infinity woofers in the front.

Cool, thanks. I actually tried hooking it up two ways. The first way I tried I just swapped speakers and did not use the crossover. It sounded decent but there didn't appear to be much bass and the tweeter sounded like it may have been getting too much range and slightly clipping. I then went to the other door and put both tweeter and woofer wires into the "in" on the infinity crossover. I then ran the outs to the woofer and tweeter. Again when isolating to this side there did not appear to be much bass. The tweeter did not sound as loud as the other side but there was no crackling sound. When I centered the stereo to both front speakers the bass sounded way better as did the clarity. It was honestly hard to determine which one sounded better when at a lower volume and centered. I did not notice a drone. What's the chance there is something wrong with your ground? I know on a record player that if its not grounded there will be a drone. I have also heard car stereos reacting to road noise. Did you notice a change when accelerating?

No change on acceleration. Maybe I'm just getting old. The mid range / bass drone only annoyed me at lower volumes. At higher volumes it sounded great.

Once I put the OEM woofers back in it sounded way better. Looking back, I feel like I wasted time and money upgrading the speakers. Mine were fine, I just was looking for a little project and decided to upgrade.

The tweeter's "crossover" is simply a capacitor...used to cut the bass.
