Now, if that had the TDI engine, it'd be one skookum rig!

Do they have skookum in Alaska? He is probably glad he doesn't I have the same car but with the V10 TDI and it is currently being rebuilt (becuase it is a POS and rare engine) to the sum of more money than the car is probably worth. Eventually every V10 TDI will fail the same way as the current PD 1.9L engines. Cam and lifter failure GAURANTEED, just when is the real question. The v8 though lacking in the TQ and MPH department is regarded as a better engine and much easier to work on and get parts for.

O wow! I never knew that they were that bad. I always thought the v10tdi was a killer engine. I'm glad you posted that. That makes the V8 be the better option then.

Sorry guys, it's been awhile since i have been on here. I didn't know that about the V10s. I originally wanted one, but couldn't find one when I found this one. The v8 is strong, not v10 twin turbo strong, but runs hard and sounds good.

As for service, oil changes can be expensive, if done at the stealership. it likes to eat brakes and tires, but what AWD doesn't. It will probably be due for front brakes in the next 5,000-10,000 miles.

As far as reliability, I have never had an issue with it in 4 years.

Tires are good, less than 15,000k on them.

Thanks,
Phil

Thanks for that input, Jason, and my apologies for...if not hijacking, at least diverting this thread into strange waters.

MMmmff - very glad I've never had any such sorts of issues with the just-a-tad-smaller TDI in my Golf. Maybe it's time to start looking at engines that run on something other than diesel??????
