Ok... I was reading through the roof rail removal FAQ. I started taking mine off and I noticed a couple of things.

1) it is not held on by T30 Torx bolts. Instead, they are 12mm bolts. 5 on each side.

2) it just does not look "right". WTF do I do about this gap?

Any assistance with part numbers or pictures of what it should look like would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do a search for the part numbers. They are just little 6-8" long strips that plug into the gaps. I ordered mine from cruiserdan at American Toyota. I think they were about $8 each.

i took the crossbars off but left the side rails case anyone needs to stand on the running boards while im driving, they have something to hold onto. you know, secret service style...............ive done it more times then i have fingers and toes.

just sayin i guess......i dont im just lookin to make pointless posts and i guess pointless threads about hubcaps, or at least dog thinks so.

ive got an idea to fix it, get the AO rack!

That's the plan! I guess I'll live with it until then.

I'm just gonna have to pioneer for the 03+ guys. Either that, or those guys don't want to give up their secrets. :o

it took me a few years to start to let out info on certain things my truck had. Maybe eventually someone will speak up. I cant help you, my roof-rack mounts farther back on the front side of it, so i dont have that gap there.

Did you have a two foot rack instead of the three foot? I know I was asked when I ordered my replacement pieces. Maybe the two foot ones are longer.

That's what mine looks like. I wasn't asked anything about the size of the rails.

So is there an additional rubber piece that goes in the gap? Anyone have an EPC picture?

if someone didnt mangle their's installing an aftermarket rack, maybe you could pick up someones gutter inserts from a 100 that had a roofrack that had only 2 feet per side. I think that would fix it.

mine has two feet, but when i had the rack off to take the crossbars out, the only things that werent covered up were the 4 little places where you can get covers for them

A picture of my roof, i have the two feet per side rack.

Thanks, loud!

That helps a lot. It seems as if the rubber insert is longer than what is on my '04.

I'll see what I come up with. But still, I would like to know how others have gone around this problem.

btw, put your model/year in yer signature.....everyones doing it these days. Its even cooler then talking about MPG.

Bump

Any new solutions?

Just took the factory rack off my '06. Looks way better, but now I have the 'Gap'. Any new solutions? Does it hurt to leave this way?

solution...lift higher! You'll never see the gaps again

Ha. My truck is already high enough (1.5" lift plus 33" tires) that you can't see it. But I know it's there...and it's bugging me.

Talk to Tim. (Nakman) Pickup one of his Expo racks?

There are several threads that talk about covers or caps for these gaps. talk to Beno or Cdan and order them.
