Hi, thank you for the reply. It happens with or without the brake being applied. I can be at a stop sign, in park, or driving down the road at any speed.Sounds to be like the ABS actuator/booster assembly. Is the brake pedal being depressed when this happens?
Hi, I did confirm there is a tapping/pulsing when I placed my hand on the booster. As long as the brakes are operating normally, I wouldn't worry too much about it (although it is probably disconcerting/annoying to hear it). I replaced a customer's brake booster/actuator on a Prius for a similar noise, and the noise was eliminated. You may be able to put your hand on the booster assembly and verify it is coming from there when the noise is heard. Replacement is expensive, but as far as I know, there is no "fix," just replacement.
I think what is happening is that there is a leak in one of the chambers of the actuator, and the noise it makes is the chamber getting re-pressurized. It may (?) have air in the system, but my guess is that the actuator is on it's way to failure....
FYI: It's the same one used on 4Runners and other Toyota applications. I saved $300 versus Lexus for a new one. Also, check eBay.Hi, I did confirm there is a tapping/pulsing when I placed my hand on the booster.
The truck didn't really have braking issues in the past; but the pedal has always been a little "soft". However, I saw somewhere else, that if you pump the brakes you might be able to "force" it into failure. Unfortunately, it did fail upon doing that. The brake pedal went to the floor and there was an single tone alarm and most of the dash lights went on at the same time. I'm glad that happened in the driveway and not on the road. I only drive it a couple thousand miles a year so maybe that is why it took so long to fail. I appreciate your help. Time to break the bank for this expensive fix.

Thanks for your help!Glad, and sad to hear you figured it out. Good luck with the repair!
