Good day guys

Did go to the "redneck yatch club" this weekend in Florida, was supposed to go, park the LX and go with my friends on the trails, but wanted to see what the LX is capable of. I did awesome and was impressed with its performance, however as soon as I was done some issues came out, and BTW this LX is bone stock.

First off the alternator is gone, had to switch batteries with a friend of mine for about 200 miles in order to make it home, then noticed a leak coming from the DS steering boot, did notice the boot is ripped, but I am new in the IFS world and have no idea how that works and the AHC stayed in H and the N light was blinking.

Now I think the ACH does not go to N since the alternator is shut, I hope once that is replaced it would go back to N and the way it was before.

Does the alternator go bad on this things that quick?
Is the AHC thing the way it is due to the alternator being bad?
What is the solution for the steering rack boot? replace and that it?

Thanks to all of you

In answer to your first question, I had the same curiosity about the alternator since I have AWFUL luck with alternators, and this is one of the highest mileage vehicles I've ever owned at 150k. From the threads I dug up the Toyota *original* alternator will easily last 180 to 200k+ miles. I would hardly call it "that quick" but I have no idea what your mileage is.

I also found that once the original alternator goes, the only thing you can obtain are used original alternators, or remans. Even Toyota puts in new remans (oxymoron) when you take it to the dealer. I figure 150,000 miles and 12 years is fairly respectable so I guess when mine packs it in I can't complain too much.

Is the rack boot or the axle boot torn?

Natvet, yes it is, DS boot is ripped. Now alternator was replaced and electronics back to normal. AHC works perfect and good to go

Now did check the PS fluid and it was very low. Did put lucas in it and it is very hard. Did try moving it left and right and still hard. When truck is reved up it turns easier and foam and bubbles are shown in the PS reservoir

Was told it could be that the pump is shut. It doesnt make any noises like when its low on fluid

Now if the pump and steering rack are shut I will have fun
