Tonight I had a similar issue to this in my '02 LX470. (BTW, I second that BMW comment. Had an '03 540i Sport, 4.4L V8, liquid cooled alt, almost $600, just for the part!).
I had my "Check Eng" light come on along with the "VSC Trac" and "VSC Off" lights. While this happened, I was traveling at about 45mph, maybe a little over. At one moment, I noticed that giving it more throttle did nothing. Engine was still running, it just would not accelerate and the rig was slowing down. I stopped it on the road side, tried to go, same thing. Threw some rev's in park, it rev'd up. I shut it off for a few seconds, started it, put it in gear and it went. Lights all stayed on. Had to drive it home because my wife and 5mo old daughter were in there with me. Bought the thing a month ago from a dealer, WITH a warranty. Hopefully this issue is covered, or its nothing too serious.
