Hi guys, names Matt. I'll get right to the point. I am thinking/hoping to get a Land Cruiser, but am finding it impossible to find a 200 in Canada. I have checked out your forum and notices a couple of members from Canada, just wondering how you guys went about it. Am I the only one who finds it odd that it is not offered here but the Lexus is?

Thanks,
Matt

I bought mine direct from a dealer in the states. Where are you located in Canada?

Not really odd. There really is a limited market for a 200 series Land Cruiser in Canada. Canada does not sell a lot of full size SUV's like the USA does. Also, there are another set of things to consider.

1. Some provinces have rediculous gas taxes. A Land Cruiser 200 will be subject to a $3000 green tax on top of an already very high price.

2. Toyota Sequoia sells for close to $68k...then there is tax...thene there is green tax...then there is filling it up...The Sequoia does not sell as it is.

3. Lexus starts the LX570 at $89k and Lexus Canada sells about 20 per month throughout Canada.

Where does that leave the Land Cruiser for Canada???? around 80k

Those who really want a Land Cruiser will do whatever it takes to get one throught the United States. There was one 2008 that I test drove which was selling for $78k brand new a few years ago. It was imported by a prestige car dealer. It took forever for them to sell it.

The Land Cruiser was offered in Canada up until 1995 when Lexus introduced the LX...that was also before the Sequoia was even thought of as well

Slight correction... LC sales stopped in Canada after the 62 series. We started getting the LX versions when they became available in 96. Any 80/100/200 series LCs in the country were not sold here originally (unfortunately).

Land Cruiser 80 was sold in Canada up until the end of 1995.

I actually purchased one brand new from Ken Shaw Lexus Toyota in the winter of 1994. At that time a lot of people didn't know but the Land Cruiser 80 had a a 1200km free maintenance check when during the first few weeks of ownership.

Really? I was unaware of that. I have yet to see a Canadian market 80 though, in person or on the web.

I spent 10 days visiting Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls and did not see a single Land Cruiser 200, so they are definitely as rare as hens teeth over there.

Importation costs probably has something to do with it. Gasoline costs $1.01 per litre with the new "harmonised tax", ouch!

add the $3000 Ontario Green Tax as well.

All relative, depending on which country you are in... :)

A top of the line Land Cruiser 200 Series Turbo Diesel in Malaysia costs RM830,000, inclusive of on road costs.

This translates to:

USD $262,700 greenbacks
CAD $268,700 Canadian dollars
AUD $288,000 Aussie dollars
GBP 165,300 pounds sterling
