When rebuilding a 2-stroke, is it appropriate to use assembly lube? Seems like it couldn't hurt anything. This is on a Yamaha G1, if that makes any difference.

Thanks:beer:

Assembly lube could be used but I generally use the 2 cycle oil that I will be running in the engine. The oil vapor in the fuel is what lubes it so you just want some lubrication on there for the initial cranking.

As far a break it in, run it at lower RPMS and vary the throttle/RPM so you do not glaze the cylinder.

Make sure everything is OK and then rev it in very short bursts to WOT.

Just an FYI for anyone making an attempt to rebuild on of these motors. It requires several SST's or a lot of ingenuity.(<sp?) We opted for the latter. Installed a new cylinder head/piston/rings, new crank bearings and seals. It runs like a scalded dog. Needs a little tweaking in the carb/timing department, but adequate as-is.

Thanks all......
