Hi guys, here's a strange question, I've just been given a great little 2 stroke water pump motor and was wondering could it be converted to a air compressor ? (without air tank) I've heard of people converting the air-co pumps... its only needed to inflate tyres....any guidance to how to do the conversion / whats needed... I'll put up some pixs very soon..

Cheers
Matt

My only thought is you would have to carry a separate fuel/oil mix container.

If I understand correctly, he wants to spin the old motor using the cylinder/piston as an air compresor, rather than spinning an air compressor with the motor.

Not sure how a 2 stroke would go, I reckon you'd get crank case oil coming out (normally blue smoke when the motors running, but a pain if its coming out liquid)

Another thought could be to build a portable battery charger / welder using an old alternator.

You could also spin an old aircon compressor to use as an airpump, but I wouldn't load both up at the same time!

Check the RPM rating of the Air Compressor.

Depending on the 2-cycle motor would greatly depend on the RPM it runs and if it would work.

Im just guessing that you have a Maryama or Echo water pump motor. They are designed and governed to run around 4,000 under load. They are really bogged down and on the bottom end of thier power band.

My biggest concern would be burning out the impeller in the water pump. Guessing by the size it would be an impeller style......or is it just the engine without the water pump?
