Greetings all. I haven't posted anything on here since acquiring my 08 FJ, but I have a question now on lifts.

My plans for the cruiser are minimal, slight lift, bumpers, and tires. This FJ will likely be used 90% on road, its my wife's main vehicle. Any off-road usage will be light trail use, sand (pismo) dunes, accompanying my FJ40.

I want a lift, to handle slightly larger tires, but primarily to remove the nose dive from the front and have the FJ sit level again.

Bumpers will come later, to have provisions for lights, and good recovery points. Not to mention I dislike the stock front "bumper"

I noticed Proffitts is listing on their liquidation site an OME 2.5" lift, for what looks to be a significant discount. Is there any reason I should stay away from this OME lift? I've searched and found a few "Stay away from OME" comments on here, but I am thinking that given the fact that I have no plans on putting in longer travel control arms, or any other modifications this OME lift might fit the bill, especially considering the price.

Comments/Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

OME is good value for the money, and a vast improvement over stock. Make sure to buy heavy enough springs to account for the extra weight of your future bumper and skid plate(s), winch, etc. if any.

Thanks for the info. I've been searching around some more, and have located more comments for this particular OME lift. Aside from the few "rides rough" comments I have seen, most people are pleased with this kit.

I'm calling to confirm with Proffitts on the kit, but it looks like the heavy spring kit. 885's in front, and 895's in back.

Thanks Again.

I have the medium front and rear (885's and 889's) and have been very pleased with the on and off road performance. I run a Metaltech tube bumper front, and a TOY Outfitters tube bumper rear and the medium is perfect. You can find negative comments on the www for just about everything, but when I was researching, the overwhelming majority of the feedback was positive. My truck is a daily driver and I wheel every four to five weeks or so in NC.

It is a good lift for the money. I ran one for about 90k miles. Make sure you have enough weight for the heavies. I'd suggest aftermarket front UCAs. Plan to replace some of your CV boot clamps after the stretch.

Ditto to what Jerry said. I had OME heavy fronts and medium rears. Go with mediums all around you should be fine. I now run Icons all around, but still have the same OME medium coil springs on the rear axle.

Put the OME on my 2007 shortly after I bought it. Heavy in front, medium in back. Leveled it out and keeps you from hitting the front all the time. That was 96K ago...no problems.

I have an OME lift and I find it to be too stiff and rough. Hopefully it will be alleviated a bit when I bolt on my new underbody protection, 5mm thick plate from the bullbar to the back bumper.

I just installed the 885 front/ 895 rear and love the ride so far. Seems to me like it rides better than stock.

Just installed the fronts. Took it out for a very brief drive, didn't seem any stiffer to me. Then again I don't drive it all that much, and anything is soft compared to my 40. The fronts only leveled it out nicely, at this point I'm wondering if I should bother with the rear springs.

Sigh. Yeah for liquidation sale :( The kit from proffits was supposed to be 886 fronts and 895 rears, as the box and part number of the kit indicated. Unfortunately the fronts were 885's (tag on the spring) which I didn't notice until after installing them, not that I could have returned them anyhow. Oh well front 885 and stock rears sit level, and gives some more clearance for the front tires. I'll just have to source some 886 fronts, and install the 895 rears, when I add front and rear bumpers and a skid plate.
