Spent a bit of time tracking down a rocker gasket leak today - turned out to be the turbo/rocker breather pipe had hardened and split.
As I'd bought a Toyota rocker gasket I thouight I would swap it anyway......
I cleaned the lip of the head up, expected it to be level all the way round, but have found that at the back of the head has a small depression - about 1mm depth and about 20mm width - the old gasket had some extra sealant at the back - I assume to close the gap fully.
Is this correct for a 2.4 head? I couldnt see a point to it - the new gasket isnt any deeper to make up the extra depth, but its clearly machined, not damage or wear.
And also....
The new gasket doesnt come with the small metal collar inserts that the bolts tighten down on, but my old gasket is 4 short.....are they essential? If so I will get some before I refit the rocker cover.
Thanks as always.
Pete
