1PZ and 1HZ interchangeable?

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a 70 series here in NZ. I have a good 1HZ on the floor of my shed which was destined for another project which I think isn't going to happen.

Are the mounts in PZJ cruisers the same as 1HZ cruisers? Eg can you drop a 1HZ into a PZJ with no drama? Would be great to have the option of the HZ as a spare etc.

I am 99.9% sure it will drop in. I think the 1pz has one cylinder removed from the front of the 1hz so the engine mounts will all line up.. I'm sure someone else can confirm.

Should be easy to work out by measuring from the rear of the engine to the engine mounts . Or just go look at a HZj75 in a car yard and take a tape measure .Measure the gap between the head cover and the firewall.
I think it will be easier if you use the transmission that comes with the 1HZ.

FJ, PZJ, & HZJ all share the same engine, crossmember, and all other mounts.

Frames are the same for all three.

i drop a 1hz onto a pzj75,have to move the left side engine mount about 2" forward,and have to move tranny mount forward for the shorter H55.
