G'day all,
I'm brand new to this forum but I need some help.
I've got a 79 series 4.2L 1HZ landcruiser ute, good nick and I don't flog my gear. Whacked a DTS turbo kit on at 200,000km with no hesitations, all done properly and tuned well with about 8psi of boost and max of 12psi at 4grand. The car only did 4k after the turbo install and dropped the ring on the number 1 piston - car wasn't running hot and still haven't been able to determine the exact cause as of yet. That's not really my issue, what's done is done so I've decided to go whole hog and get the engine bored out with new pistons, con rods, bearings the whole show for the bottom end but leaving the head stock. So as of next week the old girl will be much more suited for the turbo. My main concern is - will the turbo (DTS) need to be rebuilt as well? All seems to be fine as far as any damage is concerned but will the little extra power from the rebuilt engine effect the bearings, impeller?? Or can I worry about this down the track? I don't intend on trying to get the absolute max boost or anything out of it I'm just not too keen on blowing anything up...
Any input will be most helpful,
Cheers

I would think all would be fine with a fresh rebuild. Just make sure you use a high quality oil, preferably a synthetic or a turbo rated conventional. Seeing as the turbo has low hours shouldnt be an issue. Ceranic coating the piston tops might help. Kerping your pyro below 1100 pre turbo will help engine last.

Cheers

What were your EGTs?
How are your injectors / injection system.

My theory is the 1hz cook pistons from faulty injection systems in combination with higher than normal egts
