Please can someone tell me why on the 1HZ motor does the engine breather go into the intake manifold. Does this not affect performance?

it's an emissions thing; the oil breather vapors are burned in the engine. should not effect performance. I prefer to run an oil catch-can so that the turbo (and intercooler) do not get covered in oil.

Hey Dombo, hows things in Zim??

Everyone says it's to keep emmissions down, I don't understand how really as you would have thought that the cleaner the burn in the cylinders the lower the emmissions would be. Adding oil vapours and such to the mix can only add dirt and inefficiency to the mix.

Either way they've got to go somewhere and why not burn it? :meh:

Gifu - The 1HZ's here don't have any turbo's or intercoolers...

Yes, factory 1HZ do not, but many 1HZ do. What I should have said was... it's especially important to run a catch can on motors that are turbo'd, even more so for ones with intercoolers. My intercooled 1HDFT has a crankcase breather venting to atmosphere, but a catch can is in the works (oil fumes are nasty). My turbo'd intercooled 1HZ will also get one. Just gotta find the time to whip a couple up.

Hey thanks guys i thought that with the hot oily air from the motor has less oxygen in so will affect the performance.

It'll all get sorted out bru, and when Zim in back online then Zambia is in trouble! All the Zim farmers here are ready to move back within a couple of weeks, businesses, safari operators, everyone will go back to Zim. Livingston will be in it too, who wants to look at Vic Falls from our side when they can from yours?!
