Long story,,, engine still runs but up to piston replacement time and head reco time,, can anyone point me to a replacement piston that will be better suited to the turbo and have same installed height on the std rods. I presume there are aftermarket better suited ones, just wondering what some guys have used.
Cheers
Howes

Don't be silly and buy into all the aftermarket turbo rebuild kit crap, most of it doesn't meet oem standards. If your committed, do a 1hdt conversion, same block and crank, different head, electric pump, different conrods and direct injection head.
What I've done with mine is a full rebuild with a thicker head gasket for the extra compression with a metal insert on top of the piston to compensate for pressure and heat and an upgraded top compression ring on the piston, valve set 10-20% higher than spec to allow for slightly longer intake, exhaust and scavenging, also helps to run cooler.

Oh yeah ,and 1HDT engines just fall out of the sky every day of the week:rolleyes:

So you track down a 1hd-t head
You are still short injectors, pump, lines.

That s*** is pricy!

If I could find a 1hd-t being parted out I would buy those things if the price was right.

found a set of injector lines, injectors and pump.
Whats the going rate for this sort of thing?

A good pump will cost you about 1000, a rebuilt one 1600 and one that needs a rebuild 500. something in that range. No idea about the injector lines, who would sell those without the injectors?

I have a line on a pump, injectors and injector lines for $650. I would assume these would be cores.
Not that I really need it at this point.

I'd jump on that, good prices. Let me know if you don't, then I'd like to buy them.

Your going to pay for shipping from aus which isn't cheap....

Injector lines typically go for around a $100 for a 1HZ at the wreckers.

I think those prices would be at the small end of the scale. I could see $1600 in parts alone for one that was coming back from the dead.

OEM standards????
So tell me what is the OEM standard on a piston because the rods are toyota genuine 1HDT $196 ea trade price. the pistons are guaranteed to be stronger and of better quality than OEM std 1HZ non turbo pistons, I can't fully comprehend how it could be inferior.
I checked second hand could get 1HDT long engine with pump, lines etc for
$7500 plus freight versus complete head rebuild with new valves, brand new 1HDT rods, turbo 1HZ pitons for just under $3000,, huge difference

I'm with you on that one...
I personally have thought about if one of my 1hz's were to kick the bucket what I would do.

I could go out buy an HDJ81 for 7-10k that would need some engine work. Pump and injectors for sure. Not to mention it will have probably 250,000kms.

OR

I could rebuild the 1hz and go and throw in the thicker pistons, bigger precups, bigger rods and pins too. Throw a 1hd-t fuel pump in there for the 12mm element vs the stock 1hz pump with the 10mm element. More fuel, throw a performance turbo.
I am sure one could be built up right for under the cost of just buying a used hdj81 or even a used 1hd-t and have everything gone through.... I am sure if you put $7k aside you could get everything done.:meh:
