Can anyone tell me where to get a SST for removing the 1HZ injector pump distributive head plug?

Looks like a three sided socket.

Seems like if I had the special tool I would be able to remove it to replace the o-ring with the pump still on the engine. Has anyone done this themselves?

You can buy injection pump socket sets - three sockets for the distributive head plug, governor support bolts and fuel regulator. You can also make your own from a similar sized 6 point socket and a die grinder.

Thanks mate, I've now tracked down a set of special injector pump sockets including the one I need for the distributive head plug.

Looks like no reason I shouldn't be able to remove the plug and replace the o-ring with the pump still fitted to the vehicle?

Anyone ever done it?

If you can get access to it, you can take it off. If you are asking if it is accessible, then you need to state what vehicle you have. Normally you need an SST to measure the plunger stroke, basically a cantilever mount fot the dial indicator.

Thanks, it's a HZJ75, and it's definitely accessible when a couple of injector pipes are removed.

I have the cantilever tool for measuring plunger stroke, but you don't need the special socket for that. The plunger stroke tool goes in place of a tiny hex head plug that has a copper washer, in the centre of the distributive plug.

The plug I need the special socket for has an o-ring that I want to replace due to leaking.

From what I can see, this shouldn't disrupt the plunger height and so shouldn't need to be checked.

I'm just hoping removing the plug will not result in any other bits falling out when I do it? Should be a simple remove plug, change o-ring, replace plug?

Ah sorry, I was thinking you wanted to check the plunger stroke, my bad. I should have re-read the first post.

Nothing will fall out when you take the plug out, all you will see is the end of the plunger. There's no adjustment so no chance of losing settings. Just be spotlessly clean as the plunger and bore are the most important part of the pump.

Hope that cures your leak.
