Hi

I ordered a 1HZ head gasket since my 1HZ is loosing some oil at the rear of the had since a while.
The gasket has some kind of thin rubber coating on the edges, I just saw now that it is a little bit pitted at a few small spots. Can I still use this gasket? Anyone knows the meaning of this coating? I never saw that on a head gasket...

Thank you!

Michel

P.S. if anyone knows who could help me changing this gasket in central america please let me know! I am driving soon to Belize and keep going south!

It probably melts when it gets hot

probably or sure? ;) Who removed a 1HZ head gasket before and saw how the rubber coating looked like?

There is no other logical reason.it gets as hot as hell there,so that's what rubber will do. The ones I have removed did not have the rubber...
I've seen other head gaskets that have a glazing on them that melts when hot.
I wouldn't be too worried about the pitting. The all important things are flat surfaces and correct torqueing of head bolts.
