My OEM radiator in my 97 FZJ80 has finally decided to give up the ghost. I have a turboed 1HZ, with an A442 auto tranny that I am going to be putting in the truck in the next year, I am still gathering the random parts I need before I do the conversion. I am looking for the radiator that cools the best for a turboed 1HZ. I have spent hours digging around on Toyodiy, Ih8mud and other websites looking at the radiators for the HZJ, FZJ,80 and 81 but wanted to get some expert opinions before I purchase a OEM radiator.

PN: 16400-66081 is my stock 1FZFE..FZJ80 (08/1996 - 12/1997)
This has plastic tanks and a 2 row aluminum core.

PN: 16400-61240 is for the FJ80 for year range 90-93, I believe this is a 3 row all brass radiator.
I have heard of people preferring this radiator because it is all brass and has 3 rows.

PN: 16400-17030 or 17060 is the HZJ80, HDJ80, HZJ81 OEM radiator for year range 90-97, I believe it has plastic tanks and a brass core.

All three of these radiators will mount up minimal effort, but what the radiator that dose the best job at cooling? 2 row aluminum, 3 row brass?

If anyone has any experience with any of these radiators being used on a turbo 1HZ motor I would appreciate any info you could provide.

Thanks

A standard 1hz or 1hdt radiator if you can get one.

Although the 1fz radiator will work fine (possibly with modification for different hose positions).
I think it may be a bit bigger than the diesel radiators, as the diesels don't run as hot.

I have the 1hdt in my truck ( stock) and when my rad went I just got a performance rad brand for a north American 91 with the 3fe. No problems, bolted right in. One notable difference was the trans cooler lines were hard piped to the rad rather than removable fittings. At first I had over heat problems pulling up long grades specially when towing, but later discovered it was due to my fan clutch having virtually no fluid left in it. Once fan clutch was fixed I have never had a problem... 3 years later now. I think I paid around 250$ cad for it.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go with the 16400-66040 brass 3 row core radiator. $573 later i should pick it up from the dealer tomarrow.

yah i know..... $50 of that is payment for living in the wonderfull state of california. A few years back i ordered 2 radiators from a toyota dealer in canada both came partly crushed thanks to ups. so i figure im paying the other $50 for the convienance and a unmunched RAD.
