The 3b with turbo is great around town and on flat highway, but i climb 3k feet in 9 miles daily, soI'd like more power. Both my other Toyotas are sc'd v8 so its unfair comparison. I've even considered a turbo 1fzfe.

Why not a sc 2uz-fe then? The motors are available cheaply. A 1GR-FE would be even better for that size vehicle, and they aren't that much more than 2UZs, plus they have the more cowbell option too. If we are talking highway miles, a V- oriented engine would be my choice. (like a 1VD-FTV twin turbo hehe)

The only advantage to a diesel is range and simplicity. You could put a custom tank in the 73 and deal with range. I am not dissuading from diesels (I currently have trucks with an OM617, HZ-T, 3B and 7.3L PS), but for parts availability and prices I am not sure anything can touch gassers in the US.

Most folks seem to want a mint for Toyota diesels, especially the I-6 varieties. See the ad here for the HD-T "kit" from the UK.

The OM642 is an interesting option, but it is a spendy motor to find used.

JT any chance the turbo will be forsale? Yes I am a troll on this one.
