that trany is more than i paid for my locked diesel truck. so that wont happen .ya my gramer is the grunts,oh well . funny what a person can learn if he applies himself , and keeps an open mind. and john now im jealous ,makes me want to put the bike away and rack up some break in miles so we can finish the mods and dyno this thing .

His wording makes it very hard to read and tell if he is serious or not. I was just clarifying for him what we where talking about and letting him know that R&D on the tranny is not needed as its already been done. I know the Wholesale parts are big money but I would think that doing R&D on one locally would very very quickly add up to more than the wholesale parts with possibly not the same results. With the wholesale parts you know they work, not an unknown like doing R&D over and over again to get what you want.

Was not trying to be an ass about it just explaining it.

yea i know, geoge is alway kidding,no offence, i am trying to see weather the australian tranny will hold that much power or not when i really crank it up,so we can plan ahead to see what is best for him to decide. geoge tranny is in good shape but some how when you floor it ,at certain power band it shartter baddly,so you can figured that it is really slipping! but will the australian tranny hold?,,,- time will tell.or may be some one out there have try it,let me know.thanks in advance.

It sounds like the tranny is not holding line pressure or enough to provide the clamping force it needs. Maybe worth just getting the extreme VB and then see how it goes from there, I know one of its functions is increasing the line pressure and also putting more flow through the trans cooler a good thing on those trannys.

Might also be worth looking at the billet Torque converter because when its not in lock up and you go full power it will get hot really fast.

Not sure how much tweaking can be done with out digging into the valve body, it really is the brain on those full hydro trannys.

yeap you might be right, wait untill i got enough info before we proceed ahead with our plans.

Hey John- just back from another Sunshine Coast trip- truck pulled the hill up out of Langdale no sweat locked up in OD. 1150 F. pre turbo, 18 psi, as fast as I wanted. I actually slowed down to around 60 km and then accelerated again to observe the boost and temps. Kid loved it, wife not so much... The smoke at full load and full boost is negligible, just a slight haze. When I boot it at low boost however I can make dark smoke until either a down shift or boost builds. No issues with my trans temps or performance but I am not making the kind of power George is. Very happy with the performance, it is just right. That said, I rarely exceed 110 kph unless I have to pass etc.

ha,ha,ha, good to know it is in top tune,, enjoy the drive.:bounce2:

so today i have try out the australian tranny with lot of testing for any slippage or not ,it turn out pretty good. but with only the valve body upgrade it still slipp,,, so complete tranny w/tc is the only solution then.

I think one of the Vi Cruiser guys has the complete wholesale tranny in his 81, I forget exactly who though.

Wussypup.... Or something to that effect, I remember he cooked his tranny n waited more than a month for the wholesale auto

So I think I've put around 3000kms or more on the truck since the mod now, and it's amazing. It makes long trips and hills sooooo much better :) However, I don't think there is any savings in fuel economy. I've tracked my fuel economy on fuelly and doing the exact same trip as I have done previously in the LC there was no difference from before the mod, but that in itself is impressive. More boost, more power and no change to fuel economy....that's pretty good in my book :)

Now even though I just said there is no difference in fuel economy I did manage to log my best (uncorrected) mileage on my recent trip. Previously, it was 11.8 l/100km and I logged 11.7 l/100km. Really no different, but it is that sliver better. Conversely, I saw my worst economy recorded prior to the mod. Something over 17 l/100km and I think the worst I've seen since the mod is 16 point something.

Well worth the money I paid :) Thanks ATEB!!!

Hmm. thinking it may be time to get this mod.....<power envy>. It sure would go well with the intercooler that's already on the truck.

let them know you have an intercooler (hopefully air to air) before you book the power rod mod , for more power envy :D

Just thought I'd put a bit of an update here about this mod. I still absolutely love it. It's definitely the best money I've spent on my truck. It's actually really tempting to now pare it with the gturbo, but I'm not there yet...

Fuel economy....I'm definitely seeing better fuel economy than before the mod. On relatively flat drives (for me up and down Vancouver Island) I haven't seen any difference, but over mountain passes I've seen about 5-8% better fuel economy. The most recent drive that I've replicated from a year ago is from Chilliwack to Grand Forks. It's almost exactly 400kms, so it's nice and easy to estimate when I fuel up :), but I also document the numbers, so I can calculate (yes, I'm a nerd). Last year before the mod I achieved 11.8 l/100km. A couple of weeks ago I achieved 11.2 l/100km which is about 5% better. These numbers are uncorrected for 33" tires, so I'm actually getting better fuel economy than that. My best fuel economy to date is 11.1 l/100km driving from Hinton, AB to Kamloops.

A result of a better tune? I'd imagine boost was increased to work with the steeper fuel curve? I'd guess you don't need as much pedal on hills?

I recently increased my boost pressure without changing fuel and have more power and lower egts. I haven't driven much yet (not my daily driver) to see if fuel economy has changed. Fuel economy and lower egts is my main goal any power gains are a bonus.

Yeah, you are probably right. The fuel economy is likely the result of a better tune, but the increased boost and power rod are a nice benefit when you want to pass someone poking along in a camper.

It would have been interesting to have an egt gauge before I had the work done to compare things. I'm sure I was going slower and running higher egts before, but I can't say for sure.

Power Rod

One word...wow...just got mine done today...felt like i wasn't pulling a wet cow up a hill anymore!

Took mine into ATEB to get the power rod. Found I already had one! The P.O. in Japan must have installed it along with the intercooler. However the turbo wastegate was set wrong and I was only making 9 psi of boost, so we put in the boost controller and now I am boosting properly topping out at 18. Much improved....
