Hi guys
Looks like I have cracked a piston, about to pull the head off Tuesday night and see the damage.
Crazy amount of blow by, I’m running 18 psi and a GTurbo red wheel, injection pump set to 1.55mm and egt in manifold 700°c max.
Just thinking about the cause ? Injector ?
Anyone else had this happen ?
Thanks team

maybe some better help in the diesel section:

What year is your 1HDT?

How long were you seeing 700+?

What afr?

I'd suspect that cylinder got hot. That's usually the reason for cracking.

700⁰c shouldn't be a problem in itself.

It is possible to have a leaky injector, and have high EGTs in an individual cylinder.
When was the last time injectors were refreshed?
I think you'd see signs if one injector was bad. Rough idle, Smokey exhaust

EGT probe in the manifold is only gonna give you an average/combined temperature.
Same is true for an AFR reading from the exhaust.

PS, it looks like a moderator shifted this to the Diesel Tech section

This is why I asked how long at 700*. As it's an average one cylinder could have easily seen excess temps.
