I'm looking at maybe buying another 100 and I found this one with 198,000 miles. The front looks a little low to me, maybe needs a set of new coilovers on the front or does it look normal? My 2000 was a little low in the front but not as much as this one. Just curious what you think?

Sorry about the title, got a call in mid post and put "front" in twice.

Thanks for the help

You think that is making it look low? I don't know, just looks low but like I say, my 2000 did also.

Okay obviously I have called them wrong. Is it just shocks up front? Sorry I had one 100 and only had it a few months.

Measure from the fender lip to the hub center and compare to the many data points posted around here. It should be lower in front than back by about an inch... Shocks won't change it but T-bar pre-load will.

the flux capacitor went bad on it. just change the fuse should be perfect.

That should fix it.
You should really run a 1.25 gigawatt fuse in that thing, not the 1.21 the FSM calls for. The wiring is rated to 1.30 gigawatts. I learned that trick one night at the prom after I lost my hand playing guitar. I was ready to leave and the car wouldn't start. This guy wanted to beat my a$$ and my smoking hot date left me for some dork, so I figured I had nothing to lose. I jammed a 1.25 in the slot and let'r rip! Worked like a charm I tell you. After that I kept a bunch of those fuses in the glovebox.

Hope this helps.....

I'm buying this one to build but it will be a year or 2 before I start.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Okay, dumbass of the day award goes to me.......thanks

You run into some real jerks sometimes. They, most likely, don't know jack s----!

Oh it's all good, I can handle it. It's not the first time I said something dumb and won't be the last. I look at it this way, I'll never know unless I ask.

Just ignore the ignorant idiots. There are a lot of good people here willing to help.

Man I'm cool with it. I honestly didn't know. The honest truth is I called the Toyota dealership today and asked about it and I swear the guy in the service department said it needed new coilovers..............right hand to God. That's really scary. I'll admit it, I'm a dumbass when it comes to stuff like that but I don't work in a Toyota service department. That being said, sounds like I would qualify LOL

my hundy handles a little better with a slight rake in the front... drop the running boards and the brush guard and it will look like you lifted it... to the avg joe

I know this is not about what I posted but I find myself reading through old post and have a question. Seems the weak link in the 98 and 99 100 is the front diff. My question is, if you put in an ARB air locker in the front, does that take care of the week diff? If so, do you need to change out anything else, like the ring and pinion? Also, if I get this 99, I will more than likely put 285/75/16's on, any need to re-gear it? From what I read, seems I would be okay as long as I don't go larger than 285. Thanks for the help and I hope I get this one. I will know on Sunday afternoon.

Yes the ARB front diff setup takes care of the front diff issues. IMO if you stick with the tire size above 285/75R16's you really wouldn't have a need to re-gear. You may have the desire to re-gear after you add front/rear bumpers, drawers, winch, skids and sliders but it will not be remotely close to as bad as you need them on a 100 with ~35's. Personally I'd be hesitant to re-gear on 285/75R16's. I don't think there is much bang for the buck there. Consensus on the R&P is that it is pretty good as-is but several have had R&P damage as a result from diff failures while others have not.

Also if you re-gear you may as well do the ARB in the rear IMO while you are there. It's an expensive slippery slope.

You can also upgrade to a 4 pinon front , but for the labor cost you might as well stick something else in there. I am going with an eLocker option instead of the ARB. I think for the most part the weak front in the 98 & 99 talked about is over rated talk... lots of people wheeling 98 and 99 with no problems. of course you will hear of one exploding in their driveway... now that would piss anyone off..

The white one didn't work out, guy sold it to someone else before I got there. Found another 99 in Atlanta and drove down today to try it out. Everything was going great on the test drive and we stopped at a red light, cruiser died and wouldn't start back up. Felt like it was out of gas but showed a half tank. Owner said the gas gauge was accurate and had just put gas in a couple days ago. He had a tow truck come pick it up and take it to the Toyota dealer. Just glad it happened at the end of the test drive because I was going to pull the trigger
