My AC light and compressor stay on with heat on in any position- vent, floor or otherwise. I know its supposed to come on on defrost, but it stays on in any position. Pushing the AC button does not turn it off, so my AC compressor is always on killing my gas mileage. I tried to pull the AC fuse until summer, but without it, the blower does not work. Any ideas?

Hi All,

New to the forum here.

We just purchased a maroon 2000 LC with the same problem. 232K and so far, other than needing an intact master remote key (ours is taped together but starts the truck) and a CD player that works, this A/C light remaining on seems to be the only issue. The compressor is cycling on and off properly but would like it to stop altogether with the A/C light when it is depressed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem, but it's an issue with the actual button. If I press it harder or in different spots it will activate/deactivate the AC.

Duggy, u the man! That was it. I tried jamming on that switch before posting yesterday to no avail :bang: so after reading your reply I pressed hard and jostled it left and right and it and the compressor went off. I tried spraying/injecting contact cleaner into and around the button with no improvement. The stereo head unit is getting replaced today which will hopefully give me access to a removable socket that just needs a little TLC/contact cleaner. I can NOT find a single used A/C Heater control unit on the entire internet. In fact I could only find a single image of a similar one except it didn't have temperature numbering on the left control like mine. Instead, a blue/red temperature dial was on the right (reversed temp and fan speed). According to the original window sticker ours has automated temperature control. Perhaps the '98 - '99s have "manual" control.

In the meantime I am leaving the button off and if we need air conditioning the compressor will kick on in defrost mode. Any further knowledge of these units would be helpful. I'm pretty sure this one could be repaired if taken apart.

Thanks Duggy

I am also finding the A/C light and compressor are also turning on when the fan speed and vent mode are turned to Auto but the A/C light/compressor will only turn off by the press hard & jostle left & right action.
