Hey guys any of you out there have changed the lower oil pan out on your hundred series? Does it require removing the engine or lowering the transmission?

Undo engine mounts and lift engine up. Be careful of coolant T's. Remove lower cross member or 'diff drop'.

Hey thank you so much for the response. Yeah that's what my mechanic was saying and a couple friends but I've also heard you could lower the transmission a little bit to get to the pan any thoughts on that?

Did you ever find a "how to" on this? I am having to do the same thing on my 2000
Yeah the only way to do it is to lift up the motor a little bit to free it from the crossmember so you can drop the pan. Justin and I from the club ended up redrilling and rethreading a new oversized drain plug into my pan. I will get you the specs on that when I get home

Sounds good, I will have to replace my oil pan gasket, because for some reason that thing is leaking
I just saw you're in Oceanside, I'm out here in La Jolla San Diego

I have to replace the oil pump. This helps guys.. the oil pump bracket tire into the pan and the pick up tube prevents it from releasing easily… if that makes sense.
sounds like I have to loosen motor mounts and jack up the engine and remove the cross member right?

“ties into”..

Yes that is the only way to do it unless you want to take apart the crossmember on the bottom which can be more of a pain in the ass

I jumped all in and pulled crossmember and lowered the differential. I was able to remove all the bolts relatively easy at that point. Toyota really went all in with the upper oil pan gasket sealer. It’s like some kinda military grade stuff. So far I’ve got the front to give we’re over got my flat head in there but boy it feels like the hole thing is gonna snap as I pry on it… sheeesssh

Got it out. Anybody tackling this should be sure to remove the 2 pan bolts that are hidden.. the are behind the small piece of plastic that acts as a shield for the bell housing on the trans.

in for later

Mine has been leaking for a while. I think I'm going to drop the diff and try that route. Is it just fipg for the upper gasket?

Mines was leaking at upper pan at the front, right under the tensioner.

It's some kind of white sealant that looked like it was starting to bulge compared to the rest of the seal. when I pressed against the seal a bit of oil bubbled out.

The leak wasn't enough that I needed to add oil between oil changes or leave drips on ground so I cleaned it up with alcohol and smothered the area with fipg. Degreased all around and just monitoring it.. bone dry so far.

I'll get it done properly when I change my headers or install my diff drop.

Hi.

Today lifted my HDJ 100( 1hd-fte) up to jack stands.
Removed front wheels.
Drained engine oil.
Tomorrow need to remove oil sump.
What is the crossmember you guys are talking about, that needs to be removed? You mean swaybar? What I see the swaybar is really close to motor-to- transmission housing area.......
Anyway planning to lift the engine to remove the sump.

Any advise would be appreciated. 😊

Funny how people say the 2UZ doesn't leak from the pan, I've seen lots that do!

Hey did you redrill your pan in place or pull it out first? Can you share the specs? My plug hole is stripped and I’ve got to do something…

So Justin and I in the club did this in his shop and it was fairly easy. We just took our time. It has held up solid for years now.
I don't know where you live, but you're more than welcome to use my kit and I'll even give you one of these drain plugs. Then I just buy an oversized washer to further seal it and you're good to go. But you can never take it to another oil change place. You have to do it yourself. 😉
