Gentlemen

I have a 1998 100 Series LC and it is by far my most favorite vehicle ever. It has 311,000 miles and I have had it since 95 K miles. Had a few issues through the years, but always have taken care of them. Well, The ABS light came on recently and I thought I would have it checked out. The brakes work fine, just no ABS, you know, like cars used to be for a hundred years. Anyways, I took it to a fairly reputable brake shop and they ran the codes and it came back with some code that could mean like 23 different things. He seems to think though that I need to replace the entire master cylinder as for some reason for my year vehicle the ABS Module, cumulated, and pump are all integral. He said for some reason from around 98 - 02 or so some vehicle manufacturers decided that would be a great idea, but later found out that it made for very expensive repairs. Supposedly after around 02 or so the manufacturers decided to separate the components which made for cheaper repairs. Anyways he tells me the part is $3000 and the labor will be $140 to replace the part. He said I could go to the dealership and pay the $110 for the inspection to see if they could determine if the reason the light is on would be for one of the other 22 things the code could be flashing. So here is my question. What would be the best course of action? I could just leave it the way it is and not have ABS. I could replace the part or try to find it cheaper somewhere. Or should I take it to the dealer and let them further diagnose the problem for the $110 and risk them telling me the same thing. Maybe there is already a thread out there on this, if so someone please send me the link. ******The other question I have regarding this is this. What year did (if they did) the Land Cruiser 100 change from an all in one brake master cylinder part to a separate parts type of set up? I might be in the market for a newer 100 and if so that would be good information to have. Thanks All!!!!

When was the last time you flushed the brake fluid?
