I have been considering lining the inside rim with some weatherstriping to reduce the dia a bit.

As in, never had it? That's interesting because my 98 LX does.

I have only had the LX for almost 2 years. The wood of the cupholder is a little darker than the rest of the center consul so maybe it was changed in it's past ownership but why? I used to think it was darker because of possible fading of the center consul's wood as the cupholder is usually always open.

Who knows....

My 98 LC has the squared off center section. No butterfly for me either. I have had the LC since new.

Layonnn, Do you have a part # for your FJ insert? If not, what year did it come out of? THX

How do you take out this cup holder thingy? Mine is a '99 LX and the lid will not shut close and swings back open?

What seems to be the problem here?

So for those of you out there in the boat where the butterfly does NOT work, ie those with squared off center sections, did toyota just not make an insert for these? Or do some folks with squared centers have a different kind of OEM insert? Haven't found anything other than the butterfly and it not fitting in squared cup holders.

Seems like there has to be an OEM insert for us odd bunch

I found the yeti cups, both sizes, fit in the cupholder in my 1998 LX without tipping over.

I had mine with me the last few days and noticed that the outside conducts serious heat from the cup holders. When I picked the cup up, it was so hot I had to check the bottom of the cup holder, which was not as hot as I expected.

So I have a ‘98 LC and am wondering the same. Now after doing some work on the console I found it pretty easy to pop out the cup holders to access other areas around the console and shifter. Could I essentially buy the cup holders with the butterflies and pop that in it place instead of the non butterfly cup holders? Wondering if it pops right in and if the tabs line up. I saw a 2002 with the butterfly cup holders at LKQ parts yard in Ontario, CA and that idea had popped in my head and didn’t want to purchase before consulting the forums.
