1998 4runner tailgate

i'm swapping the tailgate from my 1998 4runner limited with a 2002 SR5. Both have power window,defroster,wiper,power lock,and lights(center top brake and license plate). The harness plugs are different.The gray one fits and the lights and power lock works with it plugged in. The white plug is different. The 1998 has 6 wires and the 2002 has 4. Can I cut the old harness off the 1998 and splice the plug onto the top of the door harness to make the window,wipers,and defroster work? If yes, which wires to which wires? thanks for your help, cbh2013

This going to sound crazy but I think their are some sensors or something in the later model lift gates that are not in the earlier models. I can't remember if I read that here or on T4R.org. someone had a light staying on and it was tied to some wiring in the rear hatch. I will see if I can find it.

anyone have a tailgate wiring diagram for my 1998 toyota 4runner limited?
