1991 to 1997 80 Series

I've been shopping and doing my research for my first LC now for about 6 months after a mudder turned me onto the Land Cruiser and ih8mud. I work overseas and I don't have the ability to see any of the vehicles in person. I'm currently working in Africa and I need a LC that will be able to handle the rigors of the sub-Sahara. So, I don't need a rock crawler, I do need either an expidition or something that is in good shape. A soccer mom rig would be nice; something that I could juice up myself. Here's what I'm looking for:

95-97 Cruiser
NO RUST
Lockers - I'd prefer to have them, but it's not necessary.
clean and relatively dry engine
up to $9k but willing to pay fair KBB.
west coast or or SW. See the NO rust above!
I have the cash for the right vehicle, after inspection by a fellow mudder or dealer, of course! ;)

I know I'm being a bit finicky but I need a seriously reliable vehicle. This is going to be run in the rugged desert and anywhere else in the world my family and I get sent for God and Country!

I've got a 1995 FJ80 i'm THINKING about parting ways with. I'd be happy to send you some pics and see what your think. It's pretty stock, I bought it from my father in law a couple of years ago. As I understand it, i came from out west somewhere, i'd have to check. The only rust I can find is on the center section of the bumper, and it is minimal if it is rust, may just be some oxidation. The only thing i've replaced is the battery and water pump, can't that anything that leaks. Runs great, it's third vehicle doesn't get driven like it should. The starter does need to be rebuilt/replaced, not to much trouble but I haven't found the time, tools, skill, or patience to do it. It pretty much stock, no lockers, no roof racks and no running boards. I do intend to paint the roof and hood and have it bled into the fenders if I keep it. The interior is good to great and it has catch-all floormats throughout. Michelin 275 LTS M/S with almost no wear. Let me know and i'll send some pictures

This one's a beauty, located right outside Portland, OR. I have an email into the owner asking abt history, etc. Look at those LOW miles! 97k... damn. (And no lockers!)

97 Landcruiser collectors edition

Just a heads up, I called the guy in the Portland Craigslist ad. He said he's selling it for a friend and that it has a rebuilt title even though the only things replaced from the 'minor accident' were the bumper and headlights.

I'm awaiting pictures, but am already a bit wary of the 'rebuilt title'

I just ran a CarFax. Run away...! Vehicle lived its life in New York until it was sold in a dealer acution. Totaled in December last year, Actually the record said totaled three times on three different dates in Dec 2009 and Jan 2010. Rebuilt title. The miles may well be actual as it was extremely low mileage and tracked through the history of the report. The bumper and headlight story doesn't seem consistent. YMMV but I was interested since I was headed to visit family in Washington state and now well you can probably guess I won't be chasing this particular unit.

you guys beat me to it. the guy wrote me back and said he'd picked it up from an auction and "only" had to replace the bumpers and headlights...so, um, yeah. i wouldnt gamble my money on it and certainly not yours.

pass.

Thanks for the reply. But, I'm going to have to pass on it. I need a rig that is going to be reliable as it's going to get shipped overseas to my present location. I can find most LC parts where I'm going, but starters aren't easy to find.

Guys, thanks for the help so far. I've expaned my years to 91-97 and I don't mind if it's got lockers or not. I've sent some PM's to guys and emailed them about their rigs on here, but I'm not having any luck so far. Anyone got any ideas? I'm running out of time before I leave for Africa and I need a reliable LC!
