Greetings...I just picked up a '92 L.C. with 84,000 original miles. I like it but want more power out of the 4.0. Are there any bolt ons that can help ? I have access to a TRD supercharger but found out that it will only work on the 4.5. Is there another source for a similar setup for the 4.0 ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks..

Why didn't you ask about this BEFORE you made your purchase. :frown: ;)

Performance-enhancing mods are hard to come by for the 4.0 engine. :crybaby: You should enjoy it for what it is, especially with that low of mileage on the clock, it should serve you very well for many years to come.

We'd like to see some pics of your rig though. ;)

Maybe you can put on smaller wheels/tires and that may make your rig to accelerate briskly off the line. ;p

Enjoy your new ride, good luck modding it, and oh, welcome! :flipoff2:

Mot :)

Congrats, thats really low mileage.

There isnt much you are going to be able to do to get more power out of the 3FE, just enjoy the fact you'll have easily another 200k out of it with regular care.

How slooooooooooow can u go?????????

The 4.0 is slow. Live with it or buy something fast.

you have a blower for a 4.5 laying around?

Seeing as a blower usually costs more.....Ill suggest regearing.

My 91 has 4.88s and 33 inch swampers. I dont feel at all underpowered, and still cruise down the highway. Its no racecar, but I can easily manouver in traffic, make quick intrances to busy roads, pass grandmas and such. I would really like to drive an unmodified 91/92 so I can see what all the complaints are about.

i wouldnt call it slow necessarily. try driving a 4banger nissan pickup thats lifted up some hills, youll think the 91-92 is fast.

i think the problem comes in comparing it to other things--if you just got off a motorcycle it will definetly feel slow :D
ride a minibike and then the fj80, the fj80 then seems to accelerate much better :)

Thanks for the input guys. A 350 ? - maybe in the future. I found out about the supercharger compatability before I bought the '92. I went ahead and took it because I got a pretty good deal. I have access to complete TRD Supercharger setup for the 93-94 LC. I think Borla made an exhaust system for the 91-92. I might get lucky in finding one of those and add a K&N filter to it. I guess the power is not all that bad and it reminds me of my AMC 4.2 in my CJ7.

I haven't heard of any bolt-ons...however there are a few who've rebuilt the 3FE to provide more go. Robbie I think was one...also might check the 3FE list.

I don't have a 91 but I did regear to run 35's--is plenty of power for me. You don't even have to mash the skinny peddle to get around :D

edit: someone logged into mud on my PC!!! This is not AuburnFJsexy...

My 91 came with a K&N filter, otherwise I would not have it. I think it makes no difference and I keep it clean. I had my exhaust completely redone, replaced the 2 OEM cats with 1 catco hi-flow and borla muffler with 2.5" pipes all in the stock location, in fact the tail pipe is tucked better than stock. Note: I don't have the complete borla system, as I think the tailpipe is in a terrible place and could be crushed. My exhaust does make a difference. I roll on 35's with stock gears, and it could be a slow beast, but I guess I know how to drive it because I have dropped FZJ's going up winding hills (I realize that's the driver and not the truck).
Anyway, stop worrying about what may make it faster or give more horsepower, since that's not what it is for. Because trying to make the 3FE have more horsepower is lke trying to make a civic/neon a sports car... it ain't gonna happen.

Hey Eric, Didn't know you had an Alias. Wait till David gets a hold of your alternate name. Back to the subject...Land Speeder seemed to have all the speed he needed to run Tellico 4,5 and 6 with 35's.

Ain't that a shame!
No alias, just a FJ60 owner here in Auburn, helping me with my new rear cargo shelve. He must have logged into the site, but can't figure out why.

I also had the speed to do well over 70 mph on the way home as well.
