Hello All,

While waiting for my front axle kit to arrive, i decided to do a dual battery install for the coming winter. I have the cold starting issues with my truck, so having an extra bettery helps.
Here is my Setup.
1. Old Canadian Tire Eliminator battery 875 CCA. Also bought battery tray, assorted fasteners, and anti rust black paint on sale on princess auto.
2. New 850 CCA Walmart Energizer starting/charging battery ( larger size)
3. Sure power systems 100 Amp Continous Duty Battery isolator with Aux Start Feature.

I already had the wire for the manual glow plug activation, i wired it to the isolator instead.

The Winch is now attached to the Aux. battery.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Isolated batts are the way to do it, murphy always seems to convince you to leave the lights on once and a while. I pulled my second batt for some under the hood renovating this summer, and havn't got around to putting it back. And wouldn't you know it, there I was last week walking around the parking lot, jumpers in hand

Did you find on you lj78 that the charger wire (white from alternator) needed 12v to start?

With my setup(isolater) there are 3 terminals
1-incoming charge
2- main batt (starting)
3- aux batt

with the charge wire hooked up to #1 terminal it ran but wouldn't start. So I ran a jumper between #1 and #2 giving the charge wire 12v. when off.

Wondering if you ran into this as well?

Thanks.
Joel.

Hi Joel,

Your isolator would seem to be the diode type, isn't it?

That is why i went to the solenoid type isolators.
These isolators do not need to be hooked up to the charging source.
they detect voltage in batteries and divert the incoming current either ways when a level is reached.
i did not have to go searching for alternator wires.

You can google sure power systems and read up on their installation manuals.

there are 5 connectors
1. main batt.
2. aux batt.
3. aux start input
4. solenoid active indicator
5. ground.

hope this helps.

Ali.

P.S. i bought it from,
http://www.smithae.com/

i talked to the fellow as well, explained well and quick transaction and shipping.
