found this on another site, may be worth shoppin for

Hello All,

Once again, I am posting regarding my 1991 FJ80 that I have for sale. It is
and has been sitting at my parents house. I have posted pics at the
following link. Please note that I will be keeping the rims that are
currently on the rig. I will replace them with the OEM 15" alloy wheels.

It has about 215k miles on it. I bought it with 81k mile on the clock.
Although it
runs/ran well, it does have a few areas of concern. The tranny cooler
lines rusted through and it should not be driven since the tranny slips.
Any tranny fluid basically leaks out quickly. The oil pan is leaking at
the rear seal. The front joints will need to be repaired (could drive it
as is though if the tranny lines were fixed). The windshield has a crack
and it leaks at the top of the passenger side as the body has rusted above
that corner of the windshield. Some rust and scratches, etc. here and
there. All rust is basically cosmetic with no body rust through. The door
locks only work manually. And, the check engine light was on when parked.
The diagnostic for the "check engine" light is a
faulty O2 sensor. The only pressing issue is the tranny lines. My dad was
using it as a daily driver until the tranny lines popped and was getting
about 14 mpg. It would be a good truck for someone looking to build an 80
series trail rig or, with a few bucks, could be a parts chaser or
something.

It is located in Ohio (44141) about 15 miles south of Cleveland. It has
been parked now for nearly 10 months. I did not renew the license plates
so it will need to be shipped/towed if anyone buys it. Any takers at
$875??

Also, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could post this to the 80
series list for me.

Thanks,

BENO!

Wish I could...buying house right now. Most of my money is tied up pretty hard. Never bought one before and can't believe what a fawkin s*** experience this has been.

In any event, I'll pass this along to Kirk who might take it sight unseen....maybe even Tim might grab it.

Thanks Woody.

PM me or we can talk at the wrenching, I have been through this well, 3 times in 5 years. (thats why I have a 40 dollar paint job:)

I sent the guy an email. See if I can look at it this sunday on the return trip to EL. so get in line fawkers.

Wow...Seems like a kick ass deal to me. I bet if you got the thing running and put it on ebay you'd make healthy profit... But I agree, I'd probably just beat the crap out of it.

Maybe we should buy this rig as a club and wrench on it and sell it to fund a club trip to Japan to visit the Araco plant...:grinpimp:

Nah.....screw it. Weld the rear as Jim said and thrash it!!

How bad do you want it? :D I can get it there no problem... Heck, I could replace the trans lines on the spot and DRIVE it whereever from the description...

Nick

I'll see what the guy tells me, I asked about starting it since it has sat for 10 months. If I can look at it This Sunday I should know more. Buy the lines and make a return trip to drive her home.

I will get some more info hopefully and post up. If its driveable, maybe I can talk Beno or Tim into a short road trip:)

Wife is on board. Seems she just bought a new Mac.

Might have a way to get it home with my Brothers suburban and trailer. Woo Hoo.

Anyone got any idea bout the cost of new Trans cooler lines??

questions

do you have any idea of the cost to repair a few of the problem? I am trying to buy my first rig and am in the learning phase.

Trailering is a great idea.

For the lines, if there is enough good hard line at either end, buy some hard brake line and compression unions and bend some new lines with that. Or run some trans cooler hose from the trans to the cooler (but I would not use rubber line over a long run like that for long).

Alternate solution if there is only one or two small holes. Cut out the bad section of line. Cut a length of trans cooler hose and slip it over one end of the bad section then over the other end. Double clamp each end of the hose. Refill and run it.

Should be a cheap fix from my experience. Might take an afternoon to do a nice job bending new lines but considering the cost you can not lose...

Make sure you drive it to the work day too.

Nick

I have another note into the guy. I will try to see it Sunday, and fire it up, and look at the lines. If it looks good I should be able to take a day off of work to get the trailer and get it home.

As for the work day trip.

Company car with free gas
or just fixed Cruiser, 14mpg at $2.55 per..... Mind you the brakes have not been used in 10 months.

I ll keep you posted.

"14mpg at $2.55 per"
HA! 14mpg, good luck ;)
