Question: I want to fill the void in my dash but the cruiser came without the factory stereo which means no mounting brackets. From what I’ve found they seem proprietary to the FJ62? (Angled bottom tab) any suggestions or work arounds with this? Borrowed pic.
Also, are these two meta plugs the only connections? Other factory units from newer vehicles have a third and forth plug connections. TIA

So I answered a few of my own questions. Hit up the parting out sellers and being patient. Those are the only wires. It’s pretty cool they’re universal from 1982-2017 wow

Dude - this is awesome! Love to see these old cruisers brought back to life.

Mine is an 85 FJ60 that I daily drive to work. It's FINALLY all squared away and reliable as an avil. Problem is that I have a 1HZ engine on a stand in the garage. Going to make it the ultimate diesel 60 at some point. I have the same problem you do. Wife, 2 teenagers, 4 dogs, a house, etc. Cruiser projects seem to be way down the list - oh well. The rig isn't going anywhere, and neither is teh 1HZ, so I'll get to it at some point. I do have the H55 5 speed tranny, which is totally the bomb if you're looking to spend your kids' college money on something other than college :D

You'll get to the project someday. I bought my '86 FJ60 sans engine and the running '89 FJ62 donor vehicle 16 or 17 years ago. I also bought an '85 FJ60 partial donor vehicle even before that. And the new H55f from American Toyota sat in my garage for more than two years. I just finished the build last summer. Most of the FJ60 and FJ62 remains have gone to new homes to other MUD members. And now I'm starting my '71 FJ40 build. I bought that vehicle 20 years ago and after driving it for a few years it's been sitting and waiting for 17 years. I also bought and traded for a lot of fairly rust-free FJ40 body parts at about the same time. It feels good to finally be chipping away at these projects and clearing the basement and the garages and driveways (two of each in different states). I just need to find a home for the 3FE short block sitting on the garage floor :).

Great info. Now I have some empirical evidence to share with my wife when she asks "how long will that thing (1HZ) be just sitting there in the garage?" "Not to worry my dear, there are guys on the forum who prove it can take more than a decade!" Ha. Love it.

I’m just going to list them as a set of four. Are you close by? (Boise?)
No, I'm across the line, just north of Sweetgrass, MT. I thought if you had a spare you might be willing to ship one up to MT. All good though, I'll keep looking locally. Thanks!

Alrighty! Cruiser is back! Running, driving fine. Great news, All maintenance went pretty standard. I was happy to pay a professional in a week what would have taken me many weekends to do. And... Valves are quiet! New fluids, belts, plugs, wires. They recommend I do the axle seals and main seal. (Duh) the cruiser does have 269k but the compression test came out even between 135-140lbs on all cylinders. It’s a good strong motor! Now I’ll click up some miles and enjoy as I continue to clean and the personalize the truck. I had a set of BFG KO 30” x 9.5 mounted on the stock wheels that will go on next. Picked up a stereo & speakers that are also on the next list.

Nice! Glad your gamble paid off! That’s got to be a great feeling!
