Cross posting from the pickup forum:

I'm never in this forum but I'm posting for my neighbor. He has 1990 P/U 22RE, stick and no A/C. He just had me over to listen to a sound when he turns it off. When the engine stops there is a squeak that sounds like Nelson from the Simpsons, kind of a "hee-ahh" a bit lower than higher afterwards for about 1 second. It did it every time he turned it off for me and it didn't sound like it was coming from the front near the belts or pulleys, I couldn't really tell where it was coming from. He says the longer he is driving it the louder the squeak is at shut off.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

i bet the harmonic balancer is broken. (aka crank pulley)
pull the belts and see if it still does it.
i replaced one on my brothers 90 v6.

So you are saying the belt tension running off the crank pulley is causing the squeak at shutdown and with the belts pulled and no tension it should be silent?

no, i am saying the rubber isolator on the pulley has broken loose, take the belts off to make sure it still does it with them off.

or you may be able to put a timing light on it and see if the marker on the pulley is way off.

Not Toyota specific but if you are trying to locate a noise a very long screw driver placed with the handle at your ear and tool end on steel will act as a stethiscope? to help narrow down the search area...
